What do you think of the Canadian music scene right now? and how more and more Canadian bands are going/getting bigger down south? It's good. It proves that we don't need Canadian content laws in order to compete with bands from the states. There are so many garbage canadian bands on the radio because of Canadian content laws. That's why shit like the Tea Party and I Mother Earth is only popular in Canada. There are laws that state that 40% of music played on Canadian radio stations are Canadian. That's why you hear the same Default song eight times a day. it turns Canadian music into a joke I think because it coddles mediocrety. I'm glad that bands are coming out of Canada now that can compete on a global level. If you could describe your live show, how would you? Fun. I have fun at them, I hope other people do. We try to make it a good show. it always helps when kids are up front and going off. we usually get in the crowd and try to get them stoked on the songs. It seems that lots of kids coming out to our shows now are fairly new to punk rock and smaller shows. Kids that maybe only really know of Blink or Good Charlotte, but are checking us out cause they heard us at a bigger show we played and now they're checking out punk on a more local street level. We think that's great because new kids are the ones that keep the scene alive and going. Of course, sometimes those kids aren't expecting other kids to do a stage dive onto their heads, but they learn really quickly. What are some future plans for the band? Lot's of touring. We have some bigger shows with big bands coming up. We just recorded some new songs and we'll do more. We'll be sending those to people that can help us reach more kids. We need the Getaway army to grow and there's only so much we can do without help. If it means that we can get paid to only have to worry about the music, instead of having to worry about working shitty jobs to make enough money to be the Getaway, then that's great. It's a long shot, but we think we can find someone who will be into what we're doing who will be able to help us reach more kids through distribution and better shows. What type of equipment do each of you guys use? Gerson plays a Yamaha kit. Bart and Serdi both play Peavy 5150 heads through Marshall cabs. Bart's got a Les Paul and Serdi plays an SG. Adrian plays an Ernie Ball Musicman through a Gailian Kruger head and ampeg 8x10 cabinet. I prefer Black Cat firecrackers whenever possible. Are you guys proud to be a Canadian band? I think all of our individual thoughts on nationalism are very different and hard to pinpoint. We represent Toronto more than anything. That's where we're from. We never say we're from Canada, we say we're from Toronto because we feel a hometown pride before anything. It's how we stay true to all the people we grew up with, the places that shaped us, the different cultures that make Toronto great, and all the people who first supported us. We love Canada, and we cheer for team Canada in the world cup, but it's blue and white before all else. Toronto made us. We are this city. The good and the bad. We're most proud to be a band from Toronto. Anything else you would like to add? We want to thank everyone who has taken an interest and supported us. Everyone who was at our first show, and all the new kids who are getting more and more into punk rock everyday. Go check out your own local bands and support them. Represent the home team, don't take shit from anyone, stay true to your friends and if you talk shit, be prepared to back it up. That's it. |
