Leaving the cabin, head back the way you came in and take a left at the first permitted road. Don't go to the employee's place. On the other side of the bridge you can park. Don't park in the grass. Do park and look at the scenes from the bridge. Don't get run over. Sorry, you have to cover yourself these days.
Look for turtles on the logs. One of my favorite things to do. They are very nervous and will dive in seeing any movement. And, that is sad. Can you imagine being a turtle and living in your house and having to haul it up on a log to get a little sun? Then some tourist comes along and scares you.
And, why are they taught to be scarred? Because, the big two legged things eat them and a little sun is not worth getting eaten. So, don't take offense.
Cypress "knees". Like stilagmites in the water.  Part of the Cypress tree. I think they help the tree breathe. But, that's me.
Wild irises. Why wild? They naturally decorate the bayous and lakes. I planted them in my drainage ditch. Which was a terrible idea. Sometimes pretty is not the best way to go.
There are a few picnic tables, as I had remembered, still down by the Teche. There was a pen with deer in it. Glad that's gone. I can see my old boat pulled up to shore. The Teche is a beautiful bayou which courses through a beautiful land.  Saccharine but true.
