Faerie House ~ Poetry

The Faerie House

Fairies

You can't see fairies unless you're good.
That's what Nurse said to me.
They live in the smoke of the chimney,
Or down in the roots of tree;
They brush their wings on a tulip,
Or hide behind a pea.

But you can't see fairies unless you're good,
So they are'nt much use to me.

Cradle Song

From groves of spice,
O'er fields of rice,
Athwart the lotus-stream,
I bring for you,
A glint with dew,
A little lovely dream.
Sweet, shut your eyes,
The wild fire-flies
Dance through the fairy neem;
From the poppy-bole
For you I stole
A little lovely dream.
Dear eyes, good night,
In golden light
The stars around you gleam;
On you I Press
With soft caress
A little lovely dream.

I Keep Three Wishes Ready

I keep three wishes ready,
Lest I should chance to meet,
Any day a fairy
Coming down the street.

I'd hate to have stammer,
Or have to think them out,
For it's very hard to think things up
When a fairy is about.

And I'd hate to lose my wishes,
For fairies fly away,
And perhaps I'd never chance
On any other day.

So I keep three wishes ready,
Lest I should chance to meet,
Any day a fairy
Coming down the street.

The Child and the Fairies

The woods are full of faeries!
The trees are all alive;
The river overflows with them,
See how they dip and dive!

What funny little fellows!
What dainty little dears!
They dance and leap, and prance and peep,
And utter fairy cheers!

I'd like to tame a fairy,
To keep it on a shelf, And dress its little self.
I'd teach it pretty manners,
It always should say "please",
And then you know I'd make it sew,
And curtsey with its knees!

~Author Unknown~

O Blessed Bird! the earth we pace
Again appears to be
as insubstantial, faery place;
That is fit home for thee!

Little faerie with fragile wings,
Dance with me among the springs,

Giggle and flirt under the sun,
Within the shadows lies all the fun.
From your flute pleasing music flows,
As you sit upon thy fragrant rose.

I hear your laughter as I near the brook,
Among the garden I shall look.
"Little one come out to play,"
"The dew foretells a beautiful day."

"Look inside yourself" the faerie says,
"To find true love and one that cares".
So I sit and search for love this day.

Although surrounded by the beauty of thy garden,
The love within thy heart would not pardon.
As dusk grows near,
Sweet flute music fills thy ears.
