The Unicorn Song ~ Hope's Country Cottage

The Unicorn

(A Poem by Shel Silverstein)

(Recorded by the Irish Rovers)

A long time ago when the earth was green
There was more kinds of animals than you'd ever seen
They'd run around free while the earth was being born
But the loveliest of them all was the unicorn

There was green alligators
And long necked geese
Some humpy back camels
And some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants
but sure as you're born
The loveliest of all was the unicorn

Now God seen some sinnin'
And it gave Him a pain
And He says, "Stand back!
I'm gone to make it rain."
He says, "Hey, Brother Noah,
I'll tell you what to do,
Build me a floating zoo.

And take some of them
Green alligators and long necked geese
Some humpy back camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants
But sure as you're born
Don't you forget my unicorns."

Old Noah was there to answer the call
He finished up making the ark
Just as the rain started falling
He marched in the animals two by two
And he called out as they went through,
"Hey, Lord, I've got your green alligators,
And long necked geese
Some humpy back camels and some chimpanzees
Some Cats and rats and elephants
But, Lord, so forlorn,
I just can't see no unicorns."

Then Noah looked out through the driving rain
Them unicorns were hiding, playing silly games
Kicking and splashing while the rain was pouring
Oh them silly unicorns

There was green alligators and long necked geese
Some humpy back camels and some chimpanzees
And Noah cried, "Close the door cause the rain is pouring
And we just can't wait for them old unicorns."

The ark started moving, adrifting with the tides
Them unicorns looked up from the rocks and they cried
And the waters came down and sort of floated them away
And that's why you'll never see a unicorn to this very day
You'll see green alligators and long necked geese
Some humpy back camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants
But sure as you're born
You're never gonna see no unicorns.

"I Am The Unicorn,
Born Of The Sun.
I Drink Of Still Waters,
I Ride The Hidden Clouds,
I See The Center.
I Am The Lawless One,
Whos Name Is
Submission.
I Am The Spearpoint Of Truth.
I Am The Master Of All Your Dreams And Desires.
I Am You."

Inside the enchanted forest,
Where unicorns reside,
There lives three adorable cubs
With the prettiest blue eyes.

Their fur is white and soft
And they're playful as can be,
They love to watch the unicorns
Dancing magically.

Beside a pond they wait and watch,
Hoping they will see
Magic unicorns appear,
Strutting gracefully.

Sometimes they see the magic,
Sometimes they do not,
But always they are happy
Just to rest in the magic spot.

Bubbles float on water,
The stars above glow bright,
The cubs are tired of waiting
For the unicorns tonight.

Eyes grow tired and sleepy,
A sound is heard nearby,
The unicorns are coming
From way up in the sky.

A FOREST OF LILAC

In a forest of lilac, where unicorns thrive
The rivers run backwards and butterflies cry
The sun shines at midnight and rainbows appear
To add magic and enchantment in a land far and near

Unicorns trod on a road made of gold
There's fields filled with fairies where stories are told
Mystical creatures hide out of sight
Waiting for midnight to see mornings light

Clouds made of shimmery aqua appear
They travel so slowly they never get near
Silvery raindrops fall from the sky
Covering the land with a soft lullabye
