A DAY WITH A HORSE

It was early in the day about 7am in the morning
I had the van loaded with screeching parrots and cages. All of a sudden cars were screeching , brake lights flashing and it was so scary !!

We were on the access ramp to the highway when this happened , when the dust cleared I saw to my horror that a two horse trailer was in fron of Denise laying on its side

We immediately ran to the trailer to see what we could do and inside to my horror I saw two horse laying on their side one on top of another

Because the ramp was a single lane there was no way for another car to come and pull the trailer off its side
My friends and I started trying to pull the sheet metal off , someone hollered we need wire cutters

I jumped ran to my van and brought back sheet metal cutters
After about an hour we had the roof pulled off Our next task was to try and remove the horse ,

One of the horses started thrashing ,bleeding and in dire panic
when a man screamed we needed a blanket again i ran to my car and retrieved 3 blankets , we used these around the horses heads to calm them down
struggling against horses hooves another man hollered to find some rope , again I ran to my car and came back with clothesline

By this time the men were starting to look at me strangely, motioning me inside the small confines of the trailerhe asked me to lay on the horses heads to calm them down as I was the smallest one there to fit inside the broken trailer
Laying on the horses head making shushing noises as you would for a crying child my heart just broke at the fear and pain i saw in these beautiful animals eyes , the smallest turned out to be the foal of the mare laying on top of him
with a great wrench they finally opened the trailer even more. First the mare was stood up and led shaking and quivering away with a makeshift halter from the clothesline , than the foal , great slices of dangling flesh along the bellies and up and down the legs were blessedly the only injuries . I told the men I'll be right back , everybody just grinned at me when I came back with peroxide and a first aid kit with tape

After EMS arrived and they stood around talking and walking the horses I was approached " Ma'am we gotta ask ... WHAT do you do !!!!"

I just sat down with my friends and started laughing till I thought I would wet myself , my girlfriend replied " between 3 kids and birds in her car its amazing what you'll find under her seats !!

We arrived at the birdshow full of horse sweat , hair, and blood
(of course THAN I find out horse sweat STINKS !!)
After telling our story a thousand times me and my friends still laugh over the "EMS Horse VAn" The new name for my beat up car and was forver jokingly called "Horsedoctor"after that. Back to Home page
