NYC with Baby Bro! Sept. 28, 2001 Day #3 The morning was spent wandering aimlessly. We walked and walked and walked without an agenda. We walked by FAO Schwartz. We walked by Anne Klein. We walked a lot. Conan was fun! fun! fun! We both enjoyed the show, though somber because of the recent WTC tragedy, more than "Contact." Before the show started, some guy tried to loosen us up with a few jokes. He wasn't too funny but I did notice someone behind me had an obnoxious laugh. I wondered if I'd be able to pick it out when we watched the show on tv. They used something to mute the laughter so I couldn't catch it. The things you can do with technology. I think Conan had problems getting "big name" guests but they were still good. The nephew from "The Sopranos" was alright. A guy from NPR was surprisingly funny and really made the show for me. Dinner was at Le Colonial. Good food. Nice ambience. Plant Bar was the highlight of the day though. It's a DJ lounge and the DJ was good. We got there a bit early which was good because we were able to stake out the best seat in the place. We met e-Barbara, Dana the underwear designer whose dad lives in East Hampton, Rizzo who was Dana's boyfriend, and Ephram who was Rizzo's friend. E-Barbara was hitting on Dave and I was getting protective until I realized that she was being friendly/touchy with everyone including me! She was rolling, of course. Rizzo got the brilliant idea of trying to set me up with Ephram. Apparently, he thought Ephram's chances would be better if my judgement was impaired cuz he kept asking me to try 'K' which is a horse tranquilizer. Lovely. When I found out it was a tranquilizer, I told him it probably wasn't a good idea for me since I'd been drinking. Good thing I know that downers with downers is a bad, bad thing. Unfortunately, that didn't stop Ephram from asking me if I thought Dave was offended that he told Dave that he thought I was cute. Playing dumb has it benefits and this was the time to reap them. I just told him that Dave's cool and wouldn't mind something like that. I'd have to say that the most memorable part of the night was Dave scaring off an annoyingly persistent guy. I was dancing with Dana when creepy guy #2 started following me around the floor. Dave noticed and "battled" him off. Truly priceless. When we got back to the hotel, it was late but we were thirsty so we made a Gatorade run and grabbed gyros from the corner cart. We were in the hotel elevator when this guy darted from the opposite elevator into ours. I took a look at him since that's the normal reaction to someone doing something erratic and recognized that he was an actor/comedian but couldn't remember his name. Dave and I confirmed with each other in Korean and, when we got off on our floor, Dave said, "I don't mean to be a jerk but I like your movies." I don't think Rob caught anything beyond "jerk" because he held the elevator doors open and asked Dave to repeat himself. Dave did and Rob relaxed and thanked him. We got into our room and laughed hysterically at the randomness. |
