PAKISTANI POSTAL ADMINISTRATION

 

 

After the division of India on August 15th, 1947, the Sub Post Office was taken over by the Pakistan Posts and Telegraphs Department. The Government of Pakistan made an agreement with the Government of India to withdraw all the unsurcharged Indian stamps from Dubai and the other Arabian Gulf that served by the Pakistan Post and Telegraph Department.

The unsurcharged Indian stamps continued to be used in Dubai until October 15th, 1947, when stamps of India overprinted “PAKISTAN” values from 3p to 2r and Indian postal stationery 1 ½a envelopes overprinted “PAKISTAN” were placed on sale at Dubai and continued in use until March 31st, 1948.

 

Indian postal administration cancels were continued in use during the temporary administration till the British take over the control of Dubai post office. The last two types of Indian cancels, the bridged double circle inscribed “DUBAI” only (Type 6), and the bridged double circle inscribed “DUBAI / PERSIAN GULF” (Type 7) were used only during the Pakistani postal administration.
