Theta Psi History-In August of 1973, eight young men met in the office of Mr. Merlin Augustine. Mr. Augustine, who pledged the fraternity at Grambling State University, wanted to know if we would be interested in starting a fraternity entitled "Alpha Phi Alpha." The eight young men were:

Herbert M Scott, Jr. (Fordyce, AR)
Wendell Armstrong (Little Rock, AR)
Robert L. White Jr. (Pine Bluff, AR)
Gary Brown (Newport, AR)
Walter L. Credit (Mayflower, AR)
Robert Balenton (Conway, AR)
Deodis Fleming (Springfield, AR)
Richard Scott, Sr. (Danville, AR)

Mr. Augustine proceeded to tell the history of the fraternity. He stated, "In 1906, there were seven young men who attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, a predominately white University. These men who became known as the "Seven Jewels" founded the fraternity." After telling about the fraternity, he asked the eight young men if they would be interested in starting an Alpha chapter on campus then known as "State College of Arkansas." All eight men said they were interested. And this gave birth to what finally became, "Theta Psi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.".

The eight young men pledged the entire fall semester of 1973 and called themselves the "LATE EIGHT" On December 19, 1973, they were initiated into the fraternity. The alumni Brothers of PI Lambda Chapter held the initiation ceremony in the "Dark Hollow" community of North Little Rock, AR.

Since the initial induction ceremony, the Brothers of Theta Psi have initiated over one hundred young men into the chapter. Brothers of Theta Psi continue to this day to hold our fraternity goals and objectives high. Brothers of Theta Psi, historically have had the distinction of having some of the highest G.P.A.'s among the Black Greek organizations on campus. Down through the years, the Brothers of Theta Psi have performed many civic and community projects. The Brothers of the "Mighty Theta Psi" have gone on to become successful doctors, lawyers, accountants, teachers, military men, government officials, therapists, etc.

Twenty-eight years later, the "Mighty Theta Psi" is holding its own. We all should look forward to the next twenty-five years of initiating outstanding young men into our chapter and fraternity. I know, like the "Seven Jewels", the eight young men who started this chapter are proud of all of the Brothers who have followed. A great deal of brothers have made several outstanding contributions to the chapter. It would be unjust not to recognize some of the brothers that have lead the chapter to new heights. Past Presidents- Jack Norman(Spr. 97)-1998-1999, Demetrius Richmond(Spr.97)-1999-2000, Brian Brewer(Spr.99)-2000-2001, Jeremiah Owoh(Spr.98)-2001-2002, Jeremy Owoh(Fall 98)-2002-2003. Thanks brothers for your strong dedication to the chapter and for going that extra mile. The chapter was named Arkansas's "Chapter of the Year" under the leadership of Bro. Jeremy Owoh in 2003.
