From the O-Book... Article by Yan Sun

With orientation week less than two months away, we all are eager to know the events that will take place during that week. I reviewed the O-book online, and it looks like there will be lots of activities to do. Here are some important highlights related to academics: Math and calculus placement tests will be given on Sunday, September 22nd, the second day at orientation. The optional honors chemistry test will also be given on the 22nd. The language placement tests will be given on Monday, September 23rd. Physical education testing will begin on Tuesday, September 24th. The biological sciences placement test will be given on Wednesday, October 2nd, it looks like. From September 23rd to the 30th, we have the oppurtunity to audition for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra or any ensembles at the school.

In addition to these academic events, we will have several Chicago Life meetings it looks like as well as workshops that we can go to. A Museum of Science and Industry Night will be held on September 27th. We will also have an Experience Chicago Day on September 28th. A Student Activities and Resource Fair will be held on September 29th before classes begin on September 30th.

Life in the big city Article by Yan Sun

Many of us will come from cities smaller than Chicago. Some of us may even come from rural areas. If you haven't been to a big city, the first source of headache you may experience is probably the traffic and driving conditions in the city. Driving on the interstate in Chicago is very tense. You have to watch out for dense traffic while hoping not to miss an exit. After you come out from an interstate, you may find the streets difficult to provide parking spots. The best way to get around is to ride a bus I think. When we go to Chicago, we all will have to adjust to the city life, which has lots of advantages and oppurtunities. Night life, museums and attractions, sports, etc. will all be waiting for you.
