About UCSC MUN
WHAT IS MODEL UNITED NATIONS?
Model United Nations is a  simulation of the United Nations and its various multilateral organizations. Students take on the roles of delegates and ambassadors from various countries. In role-play activities, delegates simulate their roles as representatives   from assigned countries, thinking and acting in the best interest of their nation. The delegates work together to discuss global problems and pass  resolutions on current world issues at Model United Nations conferences. This experience provides many with the skills attitudes, and knowledge to become leaders in their communities.

WHY IS MODEL UNITED NATIONS IMPORTANT?
Home
By taking the perspective of another country, students learn to understand the views and beliefs of others. MUN allows students to learn about the process of negotiation and to peacefully resolve conflicts. Delegates also gain a greater understanding of   the intricate workings of the United Nations. MUN shapes aware, informed, and   conscientious global citizens.
HOW DOES MUN FUNCTION?
MUN Conferences:
MUN conferences take place on many levels all over the world. MUN members can decide where they want to attend conferences anywhere in the world. They can be as simple as a classroom conference of thirty students, each representing a country or as complicates as an international conference that involves thousands of students from high schools or universities worldwide! Conferences can take place on the local, regional, national, or international levels. Over one million students have participated in MUN conferences in the   past fifty years. Today more that four hundred conferences take place in over thirty-five countries. Conferences occur throughout every year and vary in intensity depending on the level of the student delegation.
MUN Delegates:
MUN delegates are university or high school students with an avid interest in world politics. No experience is necessary. Delegates must be willing to keep an open mind, engage in negotiation in a peaceful manner, and have an interest in global issues.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BEING AN MUN MEMBER?
If you are interested in international affairs, MUN is a great opportunity to learn about the perspectives of people around the world. You will learn about the political and social climate of large countries and lesser-known countries that you may otherwise never learn about.

MUN gives members the opportunity to travel. MUN member can   decide where they want to travel for conferences locally, nationally, or   internationally.
