| 11.14.05 //:blisters & ink:// "twenty-some odd years later, try & name five other acoustic guitar recordings that meet, let alone surpass the standard set by Al diMeola, John McLaughlin, & Paco de Lucia's 'Friday Night in San Francisco'. I love Leo Kottke, Allan Holdsworth, Phil Keaggy & all the rest, but this is still the pre-eminent acoustic guitar recording..." erudition (in)complete, but perhaps none the wiser. sitting in the marshall academic advising office over the weekend amongst fresh-faced lower classmen, humoring the possibility that the further we progress in our education (whether through academia or personal iniative), 1) the more we open ourselves up to misinformation & manipulation, & 2) the more intransigent our belief systems become. clearly such logic largely oversimplifies the nature/importance of learning (and by no means do i suggest a complete rejection of education as a viable alternative); just let it be duly noted that the educated elite, which run the majority of governments/institutions of the world, seem no less divided or capable of finding common ground, then the so-called uneducated on the majority of contentious issues. for lack of better philosophy, i stand flimsily determined =P behind the concept of (in)complete relativism- fundamental truths do not exist in most areas of life, merely perspectives developed from specificity. counter my notion if desired. if proven wrong, it would just be means for me to be humbled yet again into further adaption and evolution. previous "ernst turned in his grave>> |
