A Message from the President: Welcome to the UMass Boston Alpha Lambda Delta website. It is our aspiration to grow our relatively new chapter. To achieve this mission it is my pleasure to announce our new Community Development and Outreach Chair Aram Pashaian. Another important element to achieve growth is this web site. Here we will post information hopefully of use to members, as well as students aspiring to join. This site will provide a place to feature the continuing outstanding achievements of our members. If you have any ideas for this site please do not hesitate to e-mail me at michael.metzger001@students.umb.edu. A special section will be added soon for induction 2005, so be sure to check back soon! What is ALD? Alpha Lambda Delta is a national first year honor society. It is designed to encourage and reward academic excellence, promote intelligent living and a high standard of learning, and to assist students in developing meaningful goals in society. By inviting first year college students to become members of this prestigious honor society, we hope to encourage academic excellence throughout the college career. For over eighty years, ALD has provided more than 700,000 students with the opportunity to establish life-long friendships and work with other students who have serious academic interests. Membership into ALD is the first step towards academic excellence throughout college. What are the eligibility requirements? Membership in ALD is based on superior academic achievement by students in their first year of college. The minimum academic average required for membership is a 3.5, also students must rank in the top 20% of their class. What do my dues cover? The one-time $30.00 dues cover the cost of your lifetime membership, a membership certificate, lapel pin, campus functions and a copy of the national magazine, The Flame. In addition, you will then be eligible to compete for thirty-two $1,000 undergraduate scholarships and twenty-three graduate fellowships ranging from $3,000 to $7,500. Who are our advisors? Theresa Mortimer, PhD Joyce Morgan Vice Provost, Academic Support Services Assistant Dean, Student Affiars Faculty Advisor, ALD Aministrative Advisor, ALD theresa.mortimer@umb.edu joyce.morgan@umb.edu |
