Hello,

My name is Micah Pascucci and I am UMM alumni.
This is my first visit to the online paper and I'm ecstatic!  Rock on Machias!!!!
Anyways, I'm writing now to tell you that the enrollment issues at UMM are due to the fact that there are TOO MANY STUDENTS let me rephrase that ...there are TOO MANY STUPID STUDENTS.  What is UMM going to do with 2000 kids when they can't deal with the ones they have now?  The new joke when admissions moved upstairs after I graduated was that now the only requirement to get into UMM was climbing a flight of stairs! This created some big issues for some prospective students.  Before the campus worries about quantity I beg you to think about the quality of incoming freshmen for once.
     For many in state students the only reason they're taking up dorm space in Machias is because it's cheap.  The cheapest school in the state if I remember correctly.  School is also a great place to find drugs and meet women.  Of course some students at UMM aren't even smart enough to figure this out! What is this doing to those out of staters (and Mainers as well) who imagined a quaint ocean university of intellectuals?  Let me tell you, every freshman is shocked once the reality sets in.  "I'm alone and surrounded by idiots."  Of course there are wonderful students at UMM.  Of course the students are innovative, smart, insert other words here.
My plea to the Machias community is this:  Go for the smart students!!!  Quality, my friends
