Information About Our School
Our school operates as a workshop of God where faith and its response of love can be exercised with the assistance of Christian teachers and fellow Christian children.
There are many aspects in our school where this can be applied.
Spiritual - Chapel services are held each Thursday. In addition, worship services are held for special occasions in the chapel or at one of the churches during the course of the year. Chapel offerings are a special part of each worship service. Each month, money from the offerings is used to help the needy or special organizations related to the church or community.
Academics - Peace and Mt. Calvary congregations are members of LAEE, Lutheran Association for Elementary Education, which is a cooperative effort of many Fort Wayne Lutheran Churches to aid our school in maintaining its high standards of excellence in areas such as curriculum, teacher training, instrumental music programs, summer programs, and publicity. Special education programs are also provided under the direction of Lutheran Special Education Ministries to ensure that students with learning difficulties receive special help.
Music - All unity students have opportunity to sing in various church and school choirs. These choirs sing for many church services and special occasions in school thoughout the school year.
Beginning in grade four, students may participate in the band program at Unity. Beginning in grade two, interested students may take part in the strings program. Qualified instructors are provided by LAEE for weekly lessons.
Athletics - Unity offers a complete interscholastic sports program for boys and girls in grades 5-8. As a member of the Lutheran Schools Athletic Association, Unity competes in football, soccer, basketball, and track for boys and volleyball, basketball, soccer, and track for girls.
Unity Interparish School Board - The purpose of the interparish school is to provide a complete program of Christian education for all the children of the congregations cooperating in this school, and for all children declared eligible for enrollment by the Interparish School Board. The School Board consists of members from each participating congregation. In cooperation with parents, Unity Lutheran School provides a Christian education so that:
- our children may know God as a loving and forgiving God.
- our children may learn to accept themselves as children of God.
- our children may be nurtured in His love.
- our children can develop a positive concept of themselves and others.
