My (Dad) was born in Bluff Missouri and raised in Taney County. He lived on a farm on Bear-Creek where he spent his life growing up until he met and married my mother. My (Mother) was born in Phillips County near (Praireview Kansas) where she lived on a farm until her parents moved during the depression in 1925 or 1929 to Benton County (near Gentry Ark) Where they built a log-cabin home and homesteaded 40 - acres of land. Later there home burned down and they traveled in a covered wagon to Missouri where my parents met. Later my parents married and lived near Reeds Springs Missouri until years later when they moved to Kansas. Kansas became apart of the United States as a free State in 1861, becoming the 34th State in the US. How Kansas became a State January 29th is a very important date for all Kansans. Kansas is known as the sunflower State, wheat State, and the Jayhawkers State. Kansas is a wheat growing State and also raises corn, sorgums, oats, barley, soybeans and potatoes. The Kansas State flower is called the Native sunflower and is the nickname for the sunflower State. The Kansas State bird is the western Meadowlark and the insect is the honeybee.
