Despite the solemn look on her face in this photo, Mary Campbell McCloud was quite pleased to be marrying Isaac Fry, the partner of Mary's deceased husband, Ross McCloud. 
    After Ross's untimely death in 1868, Mary had returned to her family near Bluegrass, Iowa.  When Isaac followed her and proposed marriage, Mary's letters disclose that she apparently spoke of little else. 
    This photo was taken in 1870, on or near their wedding day, in the house of Mary's brother.
