What can one say about a band that bought their way into stardom in the late 1980's with an "800" number in Rolling Stone? I'll give it a go: They give brilliant free concerts. The quirky duo that brought us "Particle Man" and "Bird House in your Soul" brought their act to a corporate bookstore in Albany. There were more local musicians and fans there than I remember seeing at the Larkfest. Though it was standing-room only, it was worth fighting the crowd to hear They Might be Giants. I've never been much of an accordion fan, but Polka rock works for them. I admit, though, I spent more time socializing than listening. What can one say to an internationally famous, marketing savvy band that unites the whole capital region music scene? Thanks, mates. |
