Notes from Maurice Browns sermon on Febuary 13th 2005
About Peters err Gal 2:14 "If thou being a Jew, livest after the manner of the Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?"
A detailed understanding of what some basic words mean, is needed for any disciple at any level, to rightly serve God.
Repentance means ;Get a new way of thinking, as in, be renewed in the spirit of your mind; not, what you stop doing. A genuine 180 degree turn around is not in your ability to perform, but in the attitude of your heart; You give God consent and are willing to comply; not that you expect to obey in your strength, but that you permit his Spirit to work in you. That is the real meaning of what repentance Is, and is not.
GRACE! Grace is Gods devine influence upon your heart, that flows to and effects all your life. It is a free gift from God that you can not obtain by your own ability.
Other verses used in sermon: Acts 18:27 Eph 2:5&8 4:14-5:2
1st Pet1:3-16 noting verse 13 ,5:2-7 and 2nd Pet 1:2
The fear of the Lord will lead you to get your heart established in grace.
Without the fear of the Lord people turn the grace of God into lasciviousness ( the inability to controll self) Their hearts will fail them for fear.
We can become established by trusting in the mercy of God if we respect him.
HALLOWED BE THY NAME = It is the central core of Gods personality and authority, to create things holy, and, if a creation becomes unholy, to seek to reconcile it back to himself. That's what we mean, when we begin prayer saying "hollowed be thy name"
understanding is to depart from iniquity Ps 52:8 vs 52:7
I will trust in the mercy of God forever.
Remember the publican who went home justified.
We do not trust in the good ability of our obedience.
