With modern families often busy shuttling each other to and from practices and meetings, and friends often so busy that they rely on cell phone text messages to set-up evening plans, a place to truly "getaway from it all" is a rare treat. In 1926, things weren't so hectic, but people still wanted a place to escape. back then, the arrival of Ideal Beach (now known as the popular Indiana Beach) provided an escape for a day or two of fun in the sun.  Today, Indiana Beach continues to dedicate itself as a place where guests can escape the demands of everyday life and enjoy themselves with those they hold closest.

Currently celebrating its 80th Anniversary, Indiana Beach provides guests of Monticello, Indiana with unlimited possibilities for fun, excitement, and
entertainment.  The Sand Beach Swimming Area, which has delighted guests since 1926, is the centerpiece to one of the most unique and fun water parks in the country.  The world famous Cornball Express roller coaster, voted the #1 Wooden Coaster in the World in 2002, continues to thrill guests and leave them gasping for breaths in between screams and laughter.  The popular Kiddyland area has younger imaginations smiling all day long.  Even The Roof Garden Lounge & Teen Dance Club give visitors a chance to dance their evenings away.  There's more to do at Indiana Beach than any one vacation can hold.  However, if guests want even more from their stay, the surrounding area of Monticello, White County, and Lakes Shafer & Freeman can deliver just that. "Indiana Beach began as a place to getaway from it all and enjoy a day with family and friends," offered Tom Spackman, Jr. of Indiana Beach.  "Over the years, we've kept that in mind as we've grown.  However, the surrounding area of Monticello has as well, and now the area offers a wide-variety of escapes for a vacationing family."

With over 3,000 acres of water fun, a vacation wouldn't be complete without some exciting water sports.  Jet skis, speedboats, and pontoon boats are all available for rental in the area, or guests may bring their own.  Fun-seeking families fill the waters of Lake Shafer & Lake Freeman as they water-ski, sail, tube, & swim together in the warm summer sun.

The lakeside paradise of Monticello, Indiana features two eighteen-hole golf courses. With fairways and putting greens to challenge & delight even the most accomplished golfer, these lush natural courses are the perfect addition for the vacationing sportsman.  Lake Shafer even acts as a water hazard, and the proud Shafer Queen sails by teeing-up golfers in the afternoon as it takes guests on an hour-long sightseeing voyage.

Some of the warmest memories form any childhood are formed while parents or grandparents take the children for an afternoon or evening of fishing. The shores of Lake Shafer offer ample opportunities for family fisherman to cast their lines and reel in a few fish.  While families enjoy some quiet time fishing and laughing, the catch of the day is always lasting memories of ogetherness.

The natural setting of Monticello, Indiana is the perfect setting for a quiet
canoe ride.  Canoe tours of the Tippecanoe River are offered in Monticello,
letting guests slowly paddle their way through the river and seeing White County in a more traditional manner.  Vacationing families will never forget their calm canoe ride through the natural paradise of White County.

After dark, families can enjoy a treat direct from the 1950's.  At the nearby drive-in movie theater, guests can watch one of two double features under the starlit sky of Monticello.  "The modern family's day is normally filled with so many schedules, phone calls, emails, and other requirements that time together can be very rare," stated Spackman.  "The beautiful thing about vacationing at Indiana Beach and the surrounding Monticello area is that families can start the day out together, ride as a family, and even end the day together around a campfire or at the local drive-in.  Here it's a true "family' vacation."

With endless possibilities for fun and relaxation around every corner, the
exciting rides & entertainment options of Indiana Beach, and the beautiful,
natural lakeside setting of Lake Shafer & Lake Freeman, guests who visit
Monticello, Indiana are in for an unforgettable vacation or day of fun as they
discover there truly is "...more than corn in Indiana!"
