bookses I have hung out with
I read & write poetry, well, prose mostly, & it always upset me muchly how many ppl out there in the world don't read! So most of my friends mentioned above all write, Anni, & Alex & Richard all got poetry on THEIR websites, & I also do this poetry & riot grrl zine ALPHABITCH AFTERBIRTH. Go to the ezine page sometime.
Yeh, as a sad Gothy kid I dug Poe bigtime. I also tackled PB Shelley, cos of Mick Jagger reading portions of Adonais at Brian Jones' eulogy. I don't quite get "Willie the S", but i like his fancy style. Other poets I have dug include Kenneth Patchen, Theodore Roethke, & Anne Sexton. I go to a lot of slams & readings tho, & enjoyed being wowwed by someone new. If you think you got what it takes, email me some of yr stuff. You may just find yourself wound up in ALPHABITCH.

William S Burroughs is my favorite Beat. I can't understand why ppl dig Ginsberg so much; I liked parts of "Kaddish", but I find the guy largely overrated. Some of my favorite Burroughs books are "the Cat Within", the "Western Lands" series, & of course "Naked Lunch".
Other writers I dig very much include Anne Rice & Poppy Z Brite (love them vampyre books!) , Clive Barker, Ian MacDonald, Roger Zelazny, Ray Bradbury. I like William Gibson's flashiness, but not most of his plots. I like Terry Pratchett & Douglas Adams' Discworld & Hitchhiker series respectively cos they made me laugh. I like Mercedes Lackey, Jose Phillip farmer,Stephen King & Alan Dean Foster for quick reads, the kind of books you absorb in one afternoon.
Some "crossover" writers i have loved include Patti Smith, & Lydia Lunch. I also love their music, but their poetry kicks ass too.
I like comics ("graphic novels", as they call em now). As a kid I started out on ManThing, Doctor Strange, early Siver Surfer & Howard the Duck. I followed some of the DC Vertigo series fanatically, Shade the Changing Man (until about issue 22, after which it got bad) & of course, Sandman. There was a 3 part series called Mercy I'm still trying to track down (anybody seen it?) & these really silly indy Rock Fantasy things which were a hoot. I liked Mythos, another quickly forgotten 3 parter. & of course, James 0'Barr's original The Crow (liked Pink Dust too. still looking for Bonesaw. again, anybody know where to get em?) I also like some old underground acid comics, Fat freddy's Cat, some of Vaughn Bode's stuff...
My favorite "holy" book was the Q'ran.wicked poetic! I like all the "blasphemous" poets it spawned, too, Rumi, Omar Khayyam, & their like.
