Pathology If you read this before starting your pathology rotation buy Robbins Pathologic Basis of Disease: the best textbook I have ever seen. Get a hold of the companion question book as well. The questions are more difficult and not really focused on USMLE though. When you prepare for the test itself the best review book is BRS Pathology. You have to know it by heart. Every single line of text can turn into a USMLE question. The practice test at the end of the book is a very good auto evaluation tool. Aim to ace that test and you will do well in Step1 as well. Use Robbins as a reference only. You will have a significant number of questions accompanied by micrographs or gross specimen images. Review a medium size pathology atlas, such as Wheater's Basic Histopathology or at least the pictures from a major textbook such as Robbins. During the actual test even if you don't recognize the micrograph, read the question very carefully. Many times the information is redundant and you don't really need the image to answer correctly. |
