The Federation Starfleet rarely uses smaller craft in what combat it has experienced to date. In the last war, it simply refitted existing shuttlecraft with better weaponry to serve as distractions and harassment tools in the most dire of circumstances. Simply put, the Federation has no specialized type of attack fighter craft. The Automated Battle Shuttle (ABS) is a new solution brisling with weapons aimed in every angle. The craft is built around a miniaturized warp core which slaves to satify the ship's enormous energy demands. As a consequence, the ABS can only travel at sublight speeds, leaving the bulk of its energy shunted directly to the weapon systems and shielding. The outside of the craft is covered in thick armor. The interior of the craft can accomodate a very small midget to run it in the case of rare, highly specialized military operations. The ABS' automated nature allows most larger starships to house and control their own squadrons of fighters - a formidable and essential supplementary tool in case of war. Highly maneuverable, the ABS has the ability to quickly reverse direction on a dime without overly straining the engine or vessel frame, and its highly compact size gives it relatively high survivability in the face of difficult targeting. Production is cheap enough to manufacture them on a rapid scale in a short amount of time.
