The Federation Starfleet rarely uses smaller craft in what combat it has experienced to date. In the last war, it simply refitted existing shuttlecraft with better weaponry to serve as distractions and harassment tools in the most dire of circumstances. Simply put, the Federation has no specialized type of attack fighter craft. The Prototype Attack Shuttle (PAS) is a new solution, similar to the Automated Battle Shuttle (ABS), but more lightly armed, with living space for a small crew and warp capability. It is a multi-purpose ship, offering greater operational range and armament than a conventional shuttlecraft, but not fortified to the point to deny limit its function to war alone. Away teams could utilize the PAS for ordinary as well as missions of military importance. The shuttle cruises at a maximum speed of warp 3.5 and has a limited maximum speed of warp 5. It supports a crew of four and is equipped with a replicator, 2 bunk beds, a two-person transporter pad, restroom and small cargo area.
