Small Ships alongside the USS JASON. After going alongside a large ship, Carriers etc., small craft of all types would tie up along opposite side for minor repairs, fresh water and use of our various facilities such as ship store etc. At the same time our 50 foot and whale boats were transporting repair crews twenty four hours a day to complete small jobs throughout the harbor. One instance, we had five fire control men working on a cruiser's fire control when it received orders to proceed now to the forward area,,,,,,the C.O. asked our C.O. if the men couldremain aboard until the adjustments were completed. Permission granted and two days later our men were flown back to the JASON with a job well done. |
