USS JASON SHOPS WWII
              BOILER SHOP
Bending Boiler Tubes on a fixture Mfg by the Jason.  In background a Marine
Condenser in process of Mfg. Complete retubing of boilers, rebricking of fire boxes, repairing stacks and mfg incinerators were routine for this ship.
               WELDING SHOP
Omnigraph being used with an acetylene torch to cut design in tie down rails for flight decks of aircraft carriers.  Many intricate designs close tolerance including large steel gears
two inches in thicknes were cut with
this machine.
                  FOUNDRY
An electric arc furnace being tapped and mold being poured in foreground.
The foundry in 542 heats poured castings of ferrous and non-ferrous metals amounting to a total of 177,686 lbs.  The size of the castings ranged upward to 900 lbs.
         ELECTRICAL SHOP
The electrical work shop repaired many motors, rewound armatures and field coils to motors ranging from 1,000 HP down to small fans.  In
addition transformers of all types were
rewound including transformers
with up to 15,000 volts.
       GYRO COMPASS SHOP
An Arma Master Compass Mark VII being repaired.  There was  a constant  demand in the forward  area from
merchant and navy  ships for repairs
to  gyro  compass  components
of all marks and models.
               MACHINE SHOP
The receiver chest at the left was fabricated of steel with weldments in the machine shop(weld sect)  It is a duplicate of worn out chest at right.
Welded steel fab saved many hours of
pattern and foundry work.
             MACHINE SHOP
A hob for a non std. worm gear being
milled.  This is an example of the many special tools in Jason's machine shop was called upon to
manufacture in order to fulfil demands for special materials.
               PRINT SHOP
A printer is seen operating the
Davidson Offset press, which was overtaxed to the wxtent od 3 1/4 million impressions in 14 months
of war-time printing.  A vari-typer operator at right prepares copy for
reproduction.
