Gillian had never set foot on a planet for very long prior to her 18th birthday. Born on a starship, she knew nothing other than the demands imposed by such a life. Its wonders and its dangers. Predestined to explore space like her parents, she was a child driven by her dreams. Caught up in something she didn't completely understand.
Aside from her unique experiences, Gillian spent her teenage years worrying about the typical things other teens do. That all changed shortly after she turned 16. One of the few survivors of an unprovoked attack on a stabase which had become her home only a few months earlier. Nylan Athos was critically injured during the attack. Sucumbing to his injuries a few days later.
Danielle Athos was also injured in the same attack but survived. Gillian's younger sister, Mandy, was too little to understand what had happened. However its impact didn't escape her. The incident left Gillian upset and silently enraged. Changing her career aspirations, she set her sights on the Marines. Testing her discipline to not to give into the tides of revenge brewing within.
Not much was recorded about the actual attack on Outpost Zendi, more likely Starfleet choose to hide the true details in the end. The blame has been placed on a independant group of Federation traitors, who were believed to be working mostly for the Cardassians.
By the time she was accepted into marine training, Gillian had seen more of the darker side of the space exploration than she'd been prepared for. A constant reminder that the universe was not necessarily as safe as it appeared.
Her first active duty assignment was with a unit that constantly moved around. Home happened to be whichever base or starship they were attached to at the time. Augmenting her skills with additional training.
Moving units several times Gillian saw action during the Domion War and eventually landed an assinment at the Diamond Knight Base at Dunnin's Star. Her tenure that is not an experience she can easily interpret. Too many unusual happenings surround it.
Though she won't easily forget the marines that were lost in the line of duty during that time.
Intelligent and tempermental..both aptly describe Gillian. The intense focus she displayed as a child emerged in a deeper form after losing her father. Socially she became edgier, which became a challenge for her mother.
The incident left Gillian wary of who to trust. Honor was among the personal values that remained important to her. Though she is very guarded at most times. Displaying a confidence in her abilities that comes from field experience.
Becoming a marine gave her a deep sense of purpose. A way for her to channel her mix of emotions. Fighting the Dominon left her with a new enemy to dislike.
