Knight Chain of Command

Command Structure--In Character

All department heads report to the Officer of the Watch, usually either a department head, the CO, XO, or SO, or a Conn officer. This tends to rotate around on the Knight, so everybody gets some experience. Only Counseling and Medical officers usually do NOT get a stint at Officer of the Watch.

We have 3 8-hour shifts on the Knight, and a 7 day week (just like Terra!). Officer of the Watch commands from the Bridge, though he/she may work in the Ready Room at times, when the captain is not there. The Battle Bridge is always staffed on the Knight, by at least one Conn officer and a Weapons and Communications Specialist. The Bridge, Battle Bridge, StratOps, Main Engineering, and each of the Shuttle Bays are always guarded by at least one guard, on all shifts. The brig is guarded by an armed guard. Main Security has a Communication Dispatcher and a Security officer on duty at all times.

We also have continuous scans of the interior and exterior of the Knight, manned by Sciences and observed by the Communications and Tactical officers on the Bridge.

A Bridge watch always has the Officer of the Watch, Conn, Communications, and Specialists (Yeoman at least for technical assistance and aiding the Officer of the Watch) for Operations, Communications, Weapons, and Sensors.

Your lead officer (CO, XO, SO, DSOps) will occasionally contact you about sending in regular logs (all active players MUST contribute a log a week, even if very brief, unless they have asked for some form of leave). Department heads should attempt to write more often, at least twice per week, as should all lead officers.

Command Structure--Out of Character

Co-Plotmaster and Sim Owner, GM-Emeritus
Currently: Russ Vanneman, playing Commodore H.A. Bridger

The "last word" when it comes to sim matters, both in and out of character. In charge of general overall plotting. Assists the GM in whatever capacity is needed.

Co-Plotmaster and General Director
Typically CO of the USS Knight
Currently: Jami Dustman, playing Captain B'Elin "Dusty" James

Duties: Overall administration of the sim, including recruiting and directing other SIM officers and SHIP officers, and guest players. Provides general advice and instruction regarding main plot lines and continuity of action, and helps to write materials that provide backstory for the ship. Administers the Executive Officer, Second Officer, and the Website Administrator for the sim, and the USS Knight, and is in charge of any 'attached' units and any interactions between the USS Knight sim and other sims.

Executive Officer
Typically XO of the USS Knight
Currently: Guy Sclanders, playing Lt. Cdr. Alexander Rhodes

Is charged with the general direction of personnel matters for staff of the SIM and for players on the Knight. Provides help to newcomers arriving on the USS Knight and joining the sim, and with the Plotmaster/CO, reviews new player applications, and maintains a search for new players. As XO of the Knight, administers to the simming needs of a number of department heads, and advises them on how to keep players active and happy as contributing writers. Typically acts as the main Liaison between the USS Knight, the AES, and any other online organizations.

Second Officer
Typically SO of the USS Knight
Currently: Cami Dutton, playing Major Gillian Athos

Acts in a training capacity for either the CO or XO position, and helps out with coplotting, writing with new crew members, and advising the other SIM officers (idea generation). Administers to the simming needs of a number of department heads, not the same ones as the XO administers, and advises them on how to keep players active and happy as contributing writers. Acts as Recruiting Officer, and is in charge of placing recruiting advertisements in appropriate places.

Web Site Administrator
Currently: Jami Dustman

This person may or may not play an active character on the Knight. The major role is to locate space for, and develop, the USS Knight E-Mail Simulation web site, and to work to extend that site and to make sure that we have visibility on the Internet. May procure, design or otherwise incorporate graphics and text into the website, and must maintain up to date listings for player's characters and for named NPCs of our ongoing adventures. Will help to administer to the development of descriptive materials and the Knight Site Encyclopedia. Typically, the Web Site Administrator, if running a sim character, will have that sim character carry the title of Information Scientist, and have an adjunct membership in the Sciences division of the Knight.

Sim Archivist

This position is new, and is now open to someone who wants the job, as poor old Bridger is tiring, and Jami (web site) cannot handle the load alone! The Archivist can have almost any player character position in the sim, and will also carry the title of either Librarian or Records Officer of the USS Knight. The job will include keeping up with continuity by maintaining a brief weekly synopsis of events, building a chronology of character history and history of related AES activities, and helping the Web Site Administrator with character bios, descriptive text, and the Encyclopedia entries.
