Construction of the USS Knight

The Knight was constructed at the Utopia Planitia Shipyards under great secrecy. Several upgrades were made to the basic Sovereign-class ship, including meta-phasic shielding which would hold up against Jem'Hadar fire. Three shields were actually installed: one for the entire ship, one for the bridge module and one for the computer core. The cloak was given a separate power supply. The Knight was also equipped with large long-term storage areas with all sorts of equipment to last the journey. It is rumored that the bridge module can be ejected and used as a shuttle but this rumour was not confirmed by any of the engineers, who were ordered not to speak. The Knight had special modifications for its initial mission into Borg space. These included:

• Specialized construction for modular refit and alteration
• Larger than average crew complement and superior quarters to other starships
• Ability to accomodate growth through families
• Less evacuation space than other Sovereign ships
• Much higher materials storage and parts inventories
• Advanced research and shop spaces
• Superior communication and sensor equipment
• Ability to add new drive systems as needed
