Jana was raised and lived aboard the core worlds luxury starliner FMS Grand Carousel, until she was nineteen. She was well educated, the daughter of the officer who became Captain, and the ships physician. She even married there, very young, but the marriage did not last, and instead of losing a fine Engineer, her father kicked her and her child off the ship and out of the family.
On Earth, penniless and not used to planetside life, she was unable at first to find employment. She ended up in the slums of Alexandria, Egypt, and eventually found a job as the least level of Secretary at a major shipbuilding firm. However, she proved adept at every kind of job she took on, and after three years, she became an Executive Assistant in the company. In her rise, she sometimes accompanied the company executive on trips into space, and realized how much she had loved the spacegoing life. Finally, she resigned from her job and entered training to become a Star Fleet Communications Technician.
She did very well in her training, and when a sudden opportunity came up to replace another Yeoman on the USS Knight, she was graduated three weeks early to begin her duties aboard the ship. The new XO, Howell Bridger, noted her records and aptitude, and made her a special slot as the XO's Administrative Clerk. As Bridger rose to CO, Jana stayed with him, and is now his Command Specialist, an E3, and is rather adept at her job. Bridger has called her "indispensable", and the "best part of being CO of the Knight". In fact, he recommended, when B'Elin James took over, that she keep Jana as her Command Specialist. Jana is, by the way, well liked by the Bridge crew, and is good at managing the work of the lower ranked administrative personnel.
During the Aebrynnian actions, she was asked by Captain Bridger to care for several orphaned children of crew members. So, with three children, including Emy Band'h and Chircas Jessi, as well as her son, Jeremy, to care for, Jana moved to an executive apartment with four bedrooms, on Deck 3. This puts her close to the Bridge, and to the CO, and provides the children with a lot of space.
She adores Jesi, and even likes the rather difficult Emy, and at least is in a truce with her after a rocky start. Her son is smitten with Jesi, too, but has a disinctly antagonistic relationship with Emy, who seems to enjoy reading his mind and playing tricks on him. Her son Jeremy joined her on the Knight, from a Starfleet Family Care Center on Earth, in early 2374. He has been a quiet and carefree lad, the leader in academics in the ship's school, until Emy Band'h recently started there formally, and claimed the number one spot. This was a source of frustration for the boy, who is now pursuing athletics as a means of showing that he excels at something.
Jana has recently explored the opportunity of moving to the USS Vesuvius with Jeremy, now that all children have been ordered off of Knight One Squadron.
5'3", 124#. Curly brown hair and black eyes, left handed. Female. She is of average fitness for a fleet officer, and has to struggle to maintain her weight. She is slightly astigmatic and allergic to retinax, and therefore wears eyeglasses for close work.
Bright and cheerful, Jana is somewhat underconfident of her abilities but quite competent in pursuit of those duties. Her personal life has been somewhat of a mess. She married the Asst. Chf. Engineer of the FMS Grand Carousel when she was only 17, and they broke up over differences two years later. She was left abandoned on Earth, with a five month old child, and worked hard to make a life for them. She is a realist and understands the pressures that officers work under, but does not let them get away with abusing the crew. Ever.
Jana has a 12 year old son named Jeremy, who is bright and friendly and somewhat precocious. She dotes on her son, and brought him aboard the Knight shortly after she joined the ship. Jeremy is a prodigy in mathematics and is, like his mother, an enthusiastic and natural actor who enjoys all forms of theatre. Jeremy became quite involved in athletics, while Emili Band'h was aboard, hogging all the ship's academic prizes.
Over time, Jana has become fascinated with both Entor Calsanni and the new StratO Lawson. She finds herself falling all over herself to be helpful to both men, and is a bit mad at herself for this. The last time she felt this way, it was over the man she married. And that did not work out especially well.
