The Foucault vineyards are extensive, and have been in the family for almost 400 years. Marie has a large extended family with living parents and grandparents. Her siblings are Richard, 34, who runs the vineyards now, Diana, 30, who is married to a shipping consultant and lives on Alpha Centauri, Bridget, 21, now a first year medical student at Duke University on Terra, and Noel, 17, who is a sophomore at Universidade Fernando Pessoa, in Portugal, where he studies both writing and dramatics in the holographic reality program.
Marie is the first of her family to ever leave to go into space services.
Marie was born in a grape vineyard outside of Paris, France. Her family and the neighbors, the Pickards, had feuded for generations, only settling it in the last ten years. She was the middle of five children and the best at learning the family tradition of winemaking. However, her heart was in more technical matters. She was a computer whiz, and entered accelerated training by the time she was ten.
When she was 16, she entered the prestigious Daestrom Institute at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After graduating with honors, she attended the masters program in Biocomputing and AI at the University of Toronto.
She had been interested in complex command and control systems, and worked as a student intern and then graduate assistant with Starfleet, and by the time she was finished with her masters degree, she was an acknowledged expert in USS Knights computing systems development program. Marie joined the civilian contractors program, and decided she liked the career so much that she entered the Academy Specialists part-time program while starting a field program doctoral degree, which she completed in 2375, with a dissertation that won the prestigious Daestrom Dissertation Award that year.
She was so busy, between studies and work, that she rarely socialized, although she did keep in shape by performing zero-g gymnastics and through a program of swimming and running. When the USS Knight was commissioned, Marie joined the crew.
The disaster with the initial encounter with the Jem'Hadar left all of the hardware computing specialists dead, and Marie has tried to fill the gap. She is a dedicated specialist and a gifted electronics engineer. She recently worked with Specialist Howell Bridger and several of the ships physics staff to develop a new procedure for joining dissimilar warp nacelle components to a damaged starship and achieve semi-stable warp capability.
After her exposure to kironide, Marie catalyzed a human-machine interaction that achieved a temporary group mind. Over the years since, she has developed this, and her abilities with computers in many ways parallel those of a top Bynar computing team.
Since then, she has been a mainstay of the crew, and has risen to CWO rank, as well as completing her Computer Science dissertation. She is well liked by the crew, and has been unofficially, the "Party Girl" for the ship since before the Knight was even finished. With so many changes in the crew of the Knight, she is one of only about 30 plank holders still resident on the ship.
She likes throwing elaborate parties, and has done so about a dozen times now. She is also a good designer, and with the Killian woman in fabrication, she has come up with several new clothing designs that are well regarded by both the Knight crew and by several high fashion firms.
As the only Cyberpsi on the Knight, she has a somewhat priveleged role. She reports to the Computer Officer, who admits that her abilities make him seem not so much a Computer Specialist as a spare hand to her.
Marine Foucault has become the unofficial 'party girl' on the Knight, and has helped to plan several major social events, working closely with former Ten Forward Manager Mohandas Healer. She has also designed some rather stunning costumes for several dress-up affairs.
But this is her off duty activity. On duty, as the senior technical computer specialist on the Knight, she has been able again and again to demonstrate her uncanny abilities with both hardware and software. She helped to thwart both the Black Knight and the Trailoid Incursion, and survived the assault of a Prime Unit of Psion telekinetic attackers during the Battle of the Fisher King. She had a prime mission to infiltrate enemy file systems and dump certain information to law enforcement agencies during Invasion: Earth, and helped to regain control of the Knight during the Battle of the Three Sovereigns.
For a time, Marie was part of the ground teams on Aebrynnis, though she returned to the Knight to help refit her for return to her own dimension. Unfortunately, she was attacked by the being known as Mentor, and nearly killed, when she detected the presence of that monstrous creature in Emy Band'h. At this point, she is recovered from her experiences as a pawn of Mentor, though she still has occasional nightmares.
She recently received a serious black mark in her record, over events on Park leading to a broadcast revealing the existence of the Secret War.
Marie is a friendly and once-shy person. She never socialized much, until the time the Knight was lauched, but has been increasingly involved with others socially. She has a very positive attitude about the present and the future, and will work and play hard to make things better for herself and others. When she gets excited she tends to look before she leaps.
She is very close to her former suitmate, Race Fieldstalker, and to current suitemates Marisa Santarro and Lori Lane, and has often had a close working relationship with Commodore Bridger.
5'9", 135 lb., female human, pale, short gold blonde hair, pale blue eyes, ambidextrous, athletic and trim. Marie looks like a runner and moves like a gymnast. She is always interested in learning more about hand to hand combat, and is quietly a proficient marksman in most modern weapons. She competed in shooting contests using projectile weapons throughout her life, and can be considered a marksman with these guns. Her health is excellent.
Marie is a cyberpsi. The recent stresses on her to complete new tasks have 'pushed' her abilities into psychic operancy. She does not know how to use them however, and there is no qualified guidance to her abilities onboard. So far, she can meld a working group with an operant telepath in it into a working group mind, achieving startling cognitive capacities. She is able to operate a machine without actual voice or keyboard instruction, if she understands the user interface, and she is adept with most interfaces. If the system uses a coding language with which she is familiar, she suspects she can reprogram it mentally.
Marie, finished with her doctorate, has shifted her research interests to a deep survey of cyberpsi phenomena among the species of the UFP. She is preparing a large monograph about this, and has begun doing research into the phenomena, in conjunction with Dr. Korani's new Psi Medicine field unit.
Marie once doted on Entor Calsanni, but the moment seems to have passed.
