SS Lady Mischievous

(formal registry NX-42022)

Ship Slogan: "Wear a Coat of Stars"
Spider Class Starfighter Experimental Recluse Subclass

Command Staff ONLY Security Clearance Required

All Spider classes ship designs are considered secret status and are designed to be untraceable to UFP sources. Many systems are acquired from non-Federation trade partners and captured technology. All ships are equipped with special packages to ensure that enemies cannot capture the vessels intact.

The Recluse subclass of the Spider Class Starfighter is intended to fill the gap in the Federation fleet needs for a multimission low-personnel high-risk intelligence and surveillance vessel. While the Trapdoor Spider represents a fine cloaked assault vessel, her massive power and weapons systems make her easier to detect and unable to run long missions to to seat multiple crew for specialized missions. The Wolf Spider has similar problems, in addition to which the lack of cloaking and high powered sensors in exchange for killpower to compete with Jem'Hadar assault ships leads to even shorter mission durations.

A previous incarnation of the Recluse, now codenamed Longlegs, sacrificed too much firepower in return for speed and maneuverability, and the five models built are now used for rapid secret courier activity.

The Recluse has only a prototype, the Grievous, and the first mission capable model, the Mischievous, in mission status. A third ship, the Inconceivable, has been funded but not built. The Mischievous has been in test-stand mode, assigned to a Lt. Howell Bridger of Starfleet Intelligence for long term mission testing and exhaustive reliability and reconfiguration testing. This ship has already proven itself in terms of the basic mission capabilities of stealth, tracking, and shielded communications. The rather odd but technically informative mission log of Lt. Bridger made interesting reading, and have resulted in several improvements to the future production runs. The idea that the ship could go through visible configuration as a medical rescue craft is credited to this ingenious officer.

The current mission status and whereabouts of the USS Mischievous are unknown.

Update, 2374

The ship is now owned by J. Chen Liu, President of Liu Industries and by Howell Bridger, an officer of Starfleet Command. It was declared property of these two when they won their injunction to own the ship, regarded as space salvage, since no legal possession was demonstrated by Starfleet Operations during their repossession efforts in mid-2373. Liu and Bridger have leased the ship back to Starfleet in return for it's being under authority of Mr. Bridger and for a promise that the ship will be serviced adequately and replaced if destroyed.

In the refit of the USS Knight, the SS Lady Mischievous, as she is now known, has permanent alterations made to accommodate her new mission. She has been fitted with a permanent torpedo mount, fore and aft, and a 'bay' that contains up to 10 photon or quentum torpedoes, or any other kit that can be contained in a Mark IV through XII torpedo casing.

Inside, she has been fit with improved life support and space previously given to other purposes has been converted into a tiny wash area attached to the lavatory. She also has the new Foucault Interface Modules installed in all four crew workstations.

Externally, she is fit with a large static frame for mounting to the hind end of the command saucer of the Knight. This enables her to drive that section, when in independent operation from the Engineering section, at speeds of up to Warp 4.5. Her drives have been rehauled to better enable her to work at this task.

Her berth on the Knight is located at the after part of Deck 5, and includes a special mount and power feeds for direct linkage to command saucer Engineering controls. The berthing area includes an airlock, an equipment room, and specialized repair and parts kits, as well as a loading area for reloads of the torpedo bay of the Mischievous.

Minor upgrades have been made to sensors and communication gear.

The former cloaking device is certified destroyed (Bridger: HA!).
