Mundat is an absent minded scientist. But a very fine systems engineer, and an absolute expert at what he does. He never makes a mistake, and rarely remembers what he was doing an hour ago. His real loves are his two hobbies, which bore the crap out of even other scientists and mathematicians aboard the USS Knight.
Both you gotta love him. He is cheerful, and really much like an adult version of the perfect Boy Scout (he WAS an Eagle Scout on Terra). His manners are impeccable, his diplomacy with others is held in high regard. If only he would speak less about his HOBBIES!
Mundat is 6'2", 221#, dark blue, with oddly grey eyes. He is muscular and fit, though he never works out. He is an indifferent combatant, though oddly, a good tactician. He is an top chess player, and recently has been playing up to a dozen boards at once.
Mundat wandered into Starfleet as a means of finding the best equipment in the galaxy for pursuing his "hobbies". He does so, in almost all his free time. However, he also managed to amass the most hilarious ribald jokes on the ship. Nobody knows how, but he can be a hoot to be with the one evening a week he comes to "his" corner of ten forward to regale people with his latest jokes.
Mundat was placed on the Knight by Admiral M'Benga. Mundat is an expert in the technology that was used aboard the USS Paul A. M. Dirac, at the time she was lost. M believed that Mundat will be a key player in locating and rescuing that ship, if this is even possible. As it turned out, Mundat did not help to find the ship, but did help out with managing the nav and helm systems in the variety of ships that the Knight rescued from Aebrynnian space. He in fact worked out the 'slaving' system that permitted the entire rag-tag fleet to stay together throughout the six week trip to Sol system through the Vortex.
The Bolian is the only person in the galaxy who actually understands how the cyberpsi based mental fusion that Foucault can perform can be made to work. Recently, he has started to work with her to help out with this, anticipating its use during the Secret War. He was surprised to realize that the women does not herself understand this fascinating power. The two expect to collaborate on writing several scientific papers about it.
Why is Mundat not at least a WO1? Nobody actually knows, and Mundat says he is content to be "just another guy in the trenches". With the most recent shakeup in Helm Services, Mundat has just been promoted to Petty Officer'/2, however, and is now the senior non-com without a Warrant in the Helm Services group.
