The USS Knight, built to seek out and discover a Borg home territory, launched from Earth for trials, and then went through the Bajoran wormhole, to start her journey. But the mission resulted in the near-loss of the ship, and the discovery that their whole mission was a ruse by Captain Guise, in collusion with Starfleet Intelligence. And even that turned out to be a ruse, as Dominion agents had apparently lured five other ships into the same trap ahead of them. The crew of the Knight freed the survivors of a prison colony, and fought their way to the wormhole, leaving the ship a near wreck.
Mysteriously, en route to Starbase 515 for major repairs, Captain Sonali Bendre replaced Captain Guise, remanding him to Intelligence custody. Bendre brought the ship to Starbase 515, where she was rebuilt, and from which various Knight crewmembers went on long term shore leave. When Bendre returned from leave, to take the ship out, she was crippled by a genetic ailment, made more difficult by exposure to the dangerous and illegal chemical called kironide.
Under experienced Captain Benjamin Braxton, the Knight left the repair dock at Starbase 515, and during the course of her explorations, she encountered the mysterious Lasfanta, a starfaring race that literally changes stars themselves in order to colonize new worlds. But this time, they were inadvertantly destablizing a star that hosted a small UFP colony, and killing the inhabitants. First contact efforts failed, and the Knight and her starfighters engaged the Lasfanta in what would be a total war -- for the starships of the Lasfanta were colony ships, that carried a whole segment of their race to their new destinies.
The Knight managed to win the war, but was once again damaged. This time, she made for Terra, for refit, and to present an interesting case to the Starfleet Intelligence community.
Chief Engineer, then XO, Howell Bridger, discovered the existence of the Psions, a group of mad telekinetics who used the illegal and hard to produce kironide as the means for changing their bodies and genetic codes. The Psions were after a great prize, the commercial control of Terra, and were aided by numerous mercenaries and other partners. With the ship in drydock, the crew investigated, and discovered far reaching conspiracies, and brought on themselves a multitude of enemies, before breaking the case, involving two Terran cities, Starbase One, and Earth McKinley Station in a dangerous, go for broke counter to the Psion menace.
For eighteen months, the USS Knight has been patrolling the Venn Sector, the highly populated sector first explored by the USS Enterprise during her first five year mission under Captain James T. Kirk. Now, the sector has many key member and associate worlds of the UFP, and is named for the Venn System, the heavily populated starsystem with the two formerly warring Vendikar and Eminiar VII. Now, Vendikar hosts Starbase 57, the third largest starbase facility in the UFP, and Eminiar Yards, the fifth largest orbital starship construction facility in the UFP. For three years, a plague has been affecting the population of Eminiar VII, requiring a buildup of peacekeeping units of the UFP Marine Corps, and interdiction ships of the Starfleet, in order to keep the commerce of the system flowing, while protecting the rest of the UFP from the disease. The Knight never visited the Venn system, and performed other duties related to starcharting and investigations of psi activity of various species found in the sector. She also carried Admiral M. B. M'Benga, the director of the Starfleet Intelligence Psychological Warfare Division, and a master telepath descended of the branch of the M'Bengas who were affected by Paul M'Bengas exposure to the energy wall at the galactic rim during the visit of Kirks' Enterprise. M, as he is known, was spearheading a secret Delta Grey, or internal major conspiracy, operation, from the Knight.
In an earlier mission, "Knights Crossed", the Knight discovered the existence of the Combine, a 40 year old piracy and mecantile criminal organization, and the Psions, a group of mad tekekinetics, exposed to the illegal drug kironide. The crew brought both conspirator groups into the eye of Starfleet, and saved the city of Gur'Lev, Ukraine, and Earth McKinley Station, from destruction at the hands of these collaborating enemies. She also exposed the leading Admiral of Materials Management at Starbase One, as a Combine co-conspirator. M continues, with the help of agents of the JAG, to ferret out the details of the conspiracy, which apparently has spread across the Romulan, Klingon, Cardassian, Gorn, and First Federation space.
The Knight was hunted by the SS Fisher King, a Combine Q-ship of immense power, which nearly started a brush war between the First Federation and the UFP, before the Knight, the FFSS Dia'Urippe, and a group of Romulan cruisers put a stop to that, in a wide ranging anti-smuggling and anti-piracy operation that hurt the Combine. In that battle, Captain Braxton died, leaving Commander Bridger, soon to be promoted, in the command chair.
When the Knight went to the new Dunnin Star Marine Base, a counteroffensive base being constructed for a secret war in the heart of UFP territory, Captain Bridger left, experimenting with his new Manhattan Transfer Time Torpedo, a new method of travelling through time and space. During his travels, beginning 16 months in the past, he saved Dr. Korani Korisse, the leading Starfleet expert in the medical effects of kironide, and became the 'deep throat' spy that had been feeding M'Benga information about the co-conspirators for almost a year.
Before the Marine base was completed, as the Knight finished her major rehaul, Psion spies struck, and a Combine fleet came in, to destroy the Dunnin effort. With no cover fleet, the Knight was the sole combat ready starship in the system. Doomed against a 20 ship fleet, she fought bravely, until Captain Bridger returned, and opened a portal into another timespace, with an MTTT. The enemy fleet and Admiral M'Benga both believe that the Knight and the Marine Base were destroyed, when in fact they are stranded in another dimension, where magic at the heart of the world called Aebrynnis may provide them with their only way home.
The Knight was trapped in an alternate universe, on an alternate Earth in which most UFP technology is useless, and magical powers seem to rule. In this world, Captain Bridger was the Child of Light, and the modern age is the Age of the Return, in which new Knights are to be brought to the world of Aebrynnis to fight the Dark Lords again. But Bridger does not want to go through that again. He only wants to find the power source to open a new transfer point back to the UFP.
But Away teams were landed, with some difficulty, and got caught up in the affairs of the world, led in this by estranged Knight Sigmund Tjorkil. As planetary war loomed, the Atomic power wielding Knights were forced to make their decisions about the peace and security of this world that needs them and to engage in combat to seek a peaceful resolution to growing hostilities.
Once the war was won, Bridger grudgingly accepted his acclamation vote to become "Dictator" of Aebrynnis, while racing the clock to get back to the UFP, having learned just how completely the Psions and Combine rule the Venn Sector. The Knight moved to the Aebrynnian Moon, and freed 35 spacecraft from stasis there, assembling them to return home, while Dr. Korani and Naral Darven began their mission to find the means to open the Vortex, discovering a lost Bajoran colonial remnant there. That remnant had its own plans, and launced a strike against the Knight, which was successfully evaded. Bridger, with the help of Korani Korisse, navigated the Knight home, but at a terrible price for the Knights' CMO.
The USS Knight, using the confusion of her arrival via the Aebrynnian Vortex and the 35 refugee ships calling for help, managed to avoid contacts with a group of PsiBine suborned craft and achieve orbit of Terra, where she joined forces with the JAG and Delta Gray counter-conspiracy teams to combat the threat of Combine and Psion deep cover agents in various arms of Starfleet.
Actions included the destruction of several suborned Intelligence Courier craft, destruction of a number of enemy controlled orbital satellites and unmanned stations, and specific missions targeted on the surface of Terra in order to dump information on conspirator actions to various planetary press agencies, and to save key figures in the Admiralty. Lt. David Poirot, the Knight's Chief of Security, was posthumously awarded the Federation Medal of Honor, the top award for courage and action under Federation law. The USS Paul A. M. Dirac, the mysterious Ghost Ship, was given a shipwide commendation for this action, as were the crew of the USS Knight.
The slow movement of the crippled USS Knight from Earth (see Invasion: Earth) to Park, was in part a ruse to draw out PsiBine enemy forces. It failed in this regard, but did attract the Andromen, seeking their Book of Fourths, and the alternate Universe Knights, rapacious raiders of technology intending to overthrow the Imperator or Imperial Terra, and who had had their CO, Captain James, masquerading as XO B'Elin James. The initial strike by the Andromen destroyed the USS Kill Devil Hill, and temporarily captured the USS Missouri, which was towing the Knight command section. The in-tow stardrive hull of the Knight launched a desparate action against the Andromen mother ship. The Andromen achieved their goal of capturing their Book, and kidnapping 20 of 22 Little Ones, but lost their own stardrive section to the USS Knight. When the Alt.Knight showed up in the wake of this, actual combat action was avoided by Captain Bridger, who negotiated a settlement of disputes, a crew exchange, and a promise by the other Knight to leave our dimension.
This is the name of a combined forces action to strike at Andromen terror targets and to rescue the Little Ones from captivity on the Andromen home world. The action is to be conducted by the USS Knight and three other ships of the new Knight Squadron, with the support of the Knight Marine Company and RRT and three other Marine companies. It is the first mission for the new Knight Squadron, and considered to be a combat field training mission, not formally on the books as a military engagement.

In this world, Captain Bridger is the Child of Light, and the modern age is the Age of the Return, in which new Knights are to be brought to the world of Aebrynnis to fight the Dark Lords again. Meanwhile, Bridger races the clock to get back to the UFP, having learned just how completely the Psions and Combine rule the Venn Sector. He needs to return, and help to pursue the Secret War that Admiral M'Benga has planned. But even M, the canny and wily strategist, will not expect anybody to pursue the war in the ways, and with the choicees of allies, that Captain Bridger is planning to secure!
