History

Maximillian Shrek was born on Raven's Moon, a small class-M world deep in the area the Federation maps as the Gamma quadrant, the second child of a botanist and a pub owner. Max had a relatively happy childhood, thriving in his loving family of sex. His mother had aspirations of a medical career for her active son when his rather potent psionic talent was discovered. But soon his athletic nature drew him to Bagaball, a rough and fiercely competitive sport. Science and medicine soon fell to the wayside, much to his mother's regret, he declared his goal of becoming a professional Bagaball player.

But conflict with the Dominion cut short that dream. At the age of sixteen, the struggles with the Dominion exploded into all-out war. Max assisted in the war effort by taking a job after school at the shipyards loading war supplies. He married his childhood sweetheart after graduating from secondary school. He worked with his father at the pub and continued at the shipyards. When the war showed no signs of slowing, Max enlisted into the Alliance Marine Corps. Days later Myra announced that she was pregnant. Max considered retracting his enlistment, but his wife encouraged him to keep his commitment, avowing that although she would miss him terribly, she would be well provided for by both of their families.

In boot camp, Max discovered that his psionic talents offered him the ability to detect changelings, when a changeling infiltrated the Star Alliance to gather more detailed information about the planet's defenses. Max knew from the first that the man was not whom he claimed to be. His superiors were elated to discover his ability and rapidly moved him to field operations. There he was a fierce weapon against the Dominion. His innate abilities, excellent leadership, battle savvy were much needed

The Dominion, however, did not stop their press, and assaulted Raven's Moon a week before Max's tour of duty finished. His family did not survive the ruthless attack. Devastated by his loss, Max re-enlisted to seek his revenge. He was made an officer upon his re-enlistment, and he made it his vow to be the single most devastating force against the Dominion. He and his platoon lived up to that promise, racking up such victories against their foe that his name was used as a curse word among the Jem Hadar and the Changelings.

The Star Alliance had begun to tip the war into their favor, when they noticed the Dominion's forces were being divided. Curious, they sent ships to investigate why. They found the Federation and the wormhole at DS9. The Star Alliance sent an envoy to speak to the Federation of an offer of military alliance against the Dominion. Max, now in his mid-30s, was among the contingent sent to meet with the Federation.

When the seige of Earth began, Max was dispatched to Starfleet to aid them against the Dominion. The war finally coming to an end, Max was at loose ends. His life before the war was forever lost and he felt no desire toreturn to the ghosts that waited on Raven's Moon.

He was recruited by Admiral M'Botha M'Benga, to act as a liaison aboard the Knight, and a member of the staff of the StratOps unit under Lawson. However, he is attached, and not a formal Starfleet member. His role is as a liaison back to his people, who have detected Combine traffic just outside the Star Alliance's established borders.

Special Notes

The Proximan people are a hybrid people, drawing from Terran genetics and that of the Nyegai, a now long-past alien race. They have adapted to slightly cooler temperatures than the Terran norm, rather like the Innuits of Northern America, as well as adapting to a higher gravity(1.4) than found on Earth's. The Proximans developed inter-solar system travel slightly after Human's, however interaction with peaceable races allowed them to quickly advance their technology, becoming an inter-system trading force. The Proximan's have less advanced medical technologies than the Federation. The healers of their worlds compensate with psionic training that is somewhat less developed than the Vulcans.

Psionic abilities of the Proximans, while not overly common, are the legacy of the Nyegai, and run the gamete of empathy, precognition, telepathy, telekinesis, bio-control, and ESP. Children with psionics are considered gifted and are a source of family pride.

Culturally speaking, family units, immediate and extended relations and are often extended to those who have had a long-time relation with the family in question, are highly respected. If there would be a gender dominance it would lean ever so slightly to the paternal side, although children are encouraged to follow their talents rather than any kind of gender norms. There is a strong sentiment of cooperation paired with friendly competition.

The Proximan's are members of a inter-racial combine called the "Star Alliance". The original formation of this combine was an inter-system trade board of sorts. Over its existence has become more organized to finally evolve into a defense force, amongst other things, against the continued conflicts with the Dominion.
