The USS Peacemaker was constructed at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards near the planet Mars in the Sol system. She was commissioned NCC 1962-C on stardate 51882.33. Soon after her launch she became the flagship of her task group in Bravo Fleet's Task Force 86 (she is now serving with Task Force 44). She is equipped with a fleet of three runabouts and ten shuttles, all of which are named after firearms used on Earth's North American continent during its 19th and 20th Centuries.

The Peacemaker's normal crew complement is 885, with 130 officers and 725 enlisted crew serving aboard. In emergency situations, she can hold 2,500 people for evacuation purposes. Although Sovereign Class vessels are classified as Explorers, because they are the Federation's most sophisticated ships they are also used extensively for military and diplomatic purposes.
