BEF 1740) Notes: On 11 Jun 1764, Gerard and WIFE ANN sold to their son Gerard Banks, Jr., 111 acres in St. Mark's Parish, Culpeper Co., VA, [adjoining Geo. Wheatley according to another person who read the document] for 7œ. Witnesses were [son] Linn Banks and John McGannan. (Culpeper County, Virginia Deeds, vol 3, 1762-1765 [Books D-E], J.F. Dorman, 1979, quoting Book D, p 492-95) * In Nov 1769, Gerard and WIFE ANN, both of Amherst Co., VA, leased John Butler of Prince Georges Co., MD, 292 acres in Culpeper Co. in the great fork of the Rappahannock River, being part of a grant to Thos. Stanton and adjoining the land of Geo. Hume and Joshua Jennings. Witnesses were Wm. Roberts, Jas. Nash and John Hume. (Culpeper Co., VA Deed Bk E, p 702) * On 20 Mar 1776 Gerard Banks wrote his will leaving his estate to HIS WIFE during her life or widowhood. When she dies, the land where he lived on the south side of Bly's Path to the main branch that empties into Buffalo River just above Cabell's Mill will go to son William. After William's death, it will pass to son Reuben Banks. He left slaves to daus Mary and Sarah. He left 5 shillings to sons Linn and Adam. He left the same amount to daughters Elizabeth Hume and Rachel Higginbotham. He left grandson Gerard Banks a horse, saddle and bridle, as well as a good schooling. On 22 Dec 1779 Gerard wrote a codacil redirecting the legacy of a slave to his wife during her lifetime. This will was proved 7 Feb 1780. (Amherst Co. Will Book 1, p 315.) * In 1783 tax list of Amherst Co., VA, Anne Banks, listed for 2 whites, 2 blacks. * In 1787 tax list of Amherst Co., VA, Anne Banks listed for (0) white males 16-21, (3) blacks, (3) horses, and (7) cattle * In Sep 1787, Ann Banks and her son Reubin, as well as Reubin's wife Ann, sold their remaining land in Amherst Co., VA to Lindsey Coleman, 238 acres. (Amherst Co., VA Deed Bk F, p 208-9) * On 12 Nov 1793, William Banks was ordered to take possession of the estate of his mother ANN Banks, devised to her by her husband, dec'd, that he support and maintain her of the profits during her lifetime. Gabriel Penn and Samuel Croucher were appointed trustees for Ann Banks.
