NEEDHAM DEES Born: 1755, Johnson County, NC Died: 1802, Barnwell District, SC Father: Drury Dees (b. ABT 1725) Mother: Alcy Unknown Marriage: Mary Unknown, 1779, Johnson County, NC Children: 1. Unknown Female Dees 2. Unknown Female Dees 3. Hardy Dees 4. Mark Dees (b. ABT 1780) Notes: Needham served as a soldier in the Revolutionary War was granted land in Duplin county in 1788. Needham is shown in the 1790 census living in Sampson County with one son and three females. He moved to Barnwell District S.C. before 1800 and died there in 1802. Needham Dees and Nathan Coker were in Winston County (later named Barnwell District) as early as 1787. Nathan served on a Petit Jury. A Mary Dees was a witness, along with Stephen Smith to a will of John Wood dated February 01, 1788 and recorded May 06, 1788. The estate of Stephen Smith showed Needham owed a note to Smith. (From the Barnwell Chapter of the South Carolina Genealogical Society) Note: Later in the Revolutionary War, which began in 1776 and lasted into the 1780's, the English attempted a southern attack on the American colonies by sending an expedition against the fort at Augusta. It is possible that Needham was one of the patriots that went south from the Carolina to repel the British and stayed in the area. (Delores Springer) |
