Notes:

Birth info from The Banks, Family, Jane P. Banks, 1908, p 8, stating she died at 87 in 1827. Location from Ancestral File database. This latter info may be based on Jane's misinformation that her husband was from Fauquier Co.; Linn Banks and wife Sarah were given 70 1/2 acres in Amherst Co., VA by Linn's father. (Amherst Co., VA Deed Book B, p 376); On 26 Oct 1775, Linn and Sarah Banks sold John Proctor 100 acres for 27 pounds. This land was bounded by Baily Walker and Williams. Witnesses were Joseph Porter, Benj. Porter Jr., Rd. Cr. Webb, Wm. Lancaster. (Deed Abstracts of Orange County, Virginia (1759-1778) [Books 13-16], Ruth and Sam Sparacio, 1986, quoting Orange Co., VA Deed Bk 16, p 381-82);
On 26 Oct 1775, Linn and Sarah Banks sold Nicholas Arnold 136 acres for 116 lbs. This land was on a branch of Terry's Run, bordering Baylor Walker and John Proctor. Witnesses were Joseph Porter, Benj. Porter Jr., Rd. Cr. Webb, Wm. Lancaster. (Deed Abstracts of Orange County, Virginia (1759-1778) [Books 13- 16], Ruth and Sam Sparacio, 1986, quoting Orange Co., VA Deed Bk 16, p 381-82) [These 26 Oct sales may have been inheritances from the Proctors?]; On 8 Oct 1787, Linn Banks and wife Sarah sold Lindsay Coleman 75 acres in Amherst Co., VA on the north branch of the Buffalo River on which the couple were living, adjoining Joshua Hudson and Lindsey Coleman (Amherst Co., VA Deed Bk F, p 234). On 9 Oct 1787, they sold Nathaniel Mantiply 45 acres in Amherst Co. (Deed Book F, p 234) [The description here would place the property about 3 miles northeast of the town of Amherst.]; On the 1789 tax list of Lincoln Co., KY, Linn Banks family listed. Sarah was probably with her husband. [The 1789 boundary of the then very large Lincoln Co. included land along the Dix River in present-day western Garrard Co. -- the only part of present-day Garrard Co. so included.]; On 20 Jul 1790, Linn Banks and wife Sarah sold Henry Coles 70 acres in Lincoln Co., KY. Witnesses were John Bryant and Reuben Arnold. (Lincoln Co., KY Order Book 3); On 27 Dec 1799, Linn Banks, ..."sick and weak"...made his will in Garrard Co., KY. Witnesses were John Bryant, William Steen and Isaac Marksbury. WIFE SARAH was left the homestead land and 4 slaves and the stock and crops. At her death, the estate to be divided among children Leanna Pollard, Sarah Pendleton, Lucy Marksberry, Mary Mayfield, John Banks, Levina Taylor, Susannah Banks, Nancy Wilson, and Garrard Banks; also grandson Arusha Hudson. The divided portion is to consist of (a) a 533-acre tract on Robinson Creek (b) 200 acres on Green River. (3) 3 slaves (4) the stock. Daughter Sophia Banks was left one of the slaves at her mother's death. To grandson Linn Banks, son of William, is left all the land where Linn then lived after the death of Linn's wife. John Bryant and James Thompson and Samuel Gill to settle any disputes. Executors were sons William, John and Garrard Banks. The appraisal of this estate, 21 Feb 1800, recorded 325 pounds, 11 shillings, for personal property as taken by John Bryant, Zachariah Greer and Nicholas Loyd. (Kentucky Genealogist, vol. 4.) [Garrard Co., KY had been formed from Lincoln Co. in 1796. A version of this will detailed earlier in Tyler's Quarterly Magazine had several errors].; 1800 tax list, Garrard Co., KY. Sally Banks listed. [her husband was then dead]; Death info from The Banks Family, Jane P. Banks, 1908, p 8. She states Sarah was buried in a country graveyard near their home in Garrard Co., KY. [listed in another source as Mayfield-Collier-Banks Cemetery]
