Heather Vereb
Christopher Newport University

Heather Vereb is a sophomore choral music education major at Christopher Newport University where she helped start a student chapter of ACDA on campus. She performs in the choral ensembles at CNU and is also active in the Student Government Association where she serves as a representative of the student ACDA and CMENC organizations. One of her major plans for leading CCVMEA is to include and organize an enhanced communication plan among all of the Commonwealth’s chapters. In addition, she plans to lead a revision of the constitution that establishes active and inactive chapters and regional representatives from student chapters across the state as well as plans for an exciting conference next year at the Homestead for VMEA 2008 (Mark your calendars now: November 20, 21, 22)! She welcomes any and all ideas or suggestions.

Vice President
Jessica Colling
Christopher Newport University

Jessica Colling is a sophomore choral music education major/childhood development minor at Christopher Newport University. She currently serves as Vice President of CMENC chapter 1052 and has not restricted her on-campus activities to the music department. In addition, Jessica serves as New Member Educator for her sorority Alpha Phi and is also a Resident Assistant (RA) in a dormitory for first-year students. One of her favorite aspects of the music department at Christopher Newport is the preparation given to the education majors. For Jessica, teaching became a daily experience as a junior in high school where she had the opportunity to teach kindergarten through first grade students as a teacher cadet while at North Stafford High School in Stafford, Virginia. As a senior, she cadet-taught her high school chorus class. It was after directing the Winter Concert that Jessica realized that there was nothing more fulfilling to her then teaching and assisting with young musicians in gaining further knowledge in technique and performance. Since that moment on, she has dedicated her higher education to the art of music teaching. Jessica is excited to serve as Vice President of the executive board and to have the opportunity to represent the state of Virginia’s collegiate members. She hopes to bring new ideas and build stronger roots to build community throughout the state for VMEA’s collegiate members.
