Chapter 3

Alexis walked around for hours after her appointment at the Women’s Clinic.  The doctor had confirmed her pregnancy.  She was about four weeks along.  Alexis wiped a tear that ran down her cheek, she knew that one of the men who raped her could be the father of her baby.

She continued to walk but stopped at a local playground to watch the children playing.  She watched them swinging and running, just being kids.

She couldn't help but wonder what her baby would look like it.  If it would look like her or Ned or would her baby’s look be one of a stranger.  Alexis closed her eyes as sadness crept into her heart.

She wasn't ready to go to home to her lonely penthouse just yet, so she kept walking.  She was walking across the park when she spotted Ned sitting on a bench.  She was tempted to go over and try to explain things to him again but she stopped short upon seeing Chloe approach him.  Alexis watched them hug and kiss each other.  Their kiss was more than a kiss of friendship.  Alexis walked away without being seen by either Chloe or Ned.

9 pm - Alexis’ Penthouse

Alexis walked into the penthouse, dropping her keys on the desk.   She was about to go upstairs when her phone started ringing.  She decided to let the machine pick up but stopped midway up the stairs as his voice filled the penthouse.

“Alexis.  It's me, Jax.  When you get this message, call me.  I came by earlier and you weren’t home.  Well I guess you’re still out,” Jax said with a sigh.

Alexis could tell by his voice that he was worried about her but she didn't want to talk to anybody tonight, not even him.  She made a mental note to call him first thing in the morning.  All she wanted right now was a hot bath.

Jax put down the phone and ran a hand through his hair in frustration.  He was truly worried about Alexis.  He hadn't heard from her at all today and she always called him.  He was afraid for her and he didn't know how she was going to handle the news, if she was indeed pregnant.  Jax was tempted to call Ned and tell him the truth but he knew that it wasn't his truth to tell.  It was Alexis’ decision.

“Where are you?” Jax whispered as he looked out the window of the penthouse.

Two days later...

Alexis was sitting on the couch looking over some paperwork when there was a loud knock on the door.  Alexis jumped at the sound, startled.  Lately she jumped at every sound.

“Who is it?” Alexis asked before opening the door.

“Alexis, it's Jax,” He heard the locks being unlocked.  He wanted to smash something or someone, very time he was reminded of the what had happened to her.  She now lived her life in fear and every lock was a  bitter reminder to them both of what she had been taken from her.

“Hi,” Alexis said sheepishly.  She hadn't returned any of his calls.  She needed these last few days alone to think.

“Are you alright?” Jax asked walking inside.

“Yes.  I'm sorry I didn't call you back, I just need some time by myself,” she explained.

“I was worried about you,” Jax said moving closer to her.

“I know,” Alexis whispered.  She sat down on the couch and Jax joined her.  He wanted to ask how her doctor’s appointment went but he didn't want to bring up a subject that would upset her.  So he just sat there trying to think of something else to talk about.

“I'm pregnant, about four weeks along.”  Alexis answered Jax’ unspoken question and broke the tense silence.

“What are you going to do?”

“I’m having the baby,” Alexis replied.  “I thought about having an abortion but I know this may be my only chance to be a mother.  And I realized that I want to be someone’s mother.” Alexis smiled.

“Alexis, that’s great,” Jax exclaimed, offering Alexis a hug.

“Have you spoken to Ned yet?” Jax asked.

“No.  I'm having the baby but things haven't changed where Ned is concerned,” Alexis stated bitterly.  The  memory of Ned and Chloe kissing in the park flashed through her mind.

“You should tell Ned that you’re pregnant.  This baby could be his.”  Jax was shocked that Alexis didn’t want to share any of this with Ned.  In fact, she seemed somewhat hostile toward him.  Her behavior was confusing him.

“I can't Jax.  You said yourself that this baby *could* be his,” Alexis said, jumping up from couch.  “‘Could’ being the operative word, Jax.  I don't know for sure.  And I can't tell him that he might be the father of my baby, without telling him about...” Alexis choked on a sob.  “the rape,” she finished quietly.  Walking to the window.

Jax wanted to comfort her but he didn't move from his spot on the couch.  Something inside of him knew that Alexis didn't want him to touch her.  “Alexis?” he whispered.

She turned from the window to look at him.  They stared at each other for a long time.  She saw something in his eyes that made her tremble.  His eyes were always so warm and caring but there was something new shining in them.  Or maybe it had always been there and she just hadn’t notice it before now.  Jax' question shattered her thoughts.

“How long do you think you’re going to be able to kept this from Ned?” Jax asked.

Alexis closed her eyes.  She knew he wasn't going to be happy with her, once he found out her plans.  And she realize that it mattered to her what he thought.  “I can't and that’s why I'm leaving Port Charles.”

“You’re moving away?” Jax asked, not believing he had heard her right.

“I don't have a choice.  I don't want to leave but I don't want to have to explain the baby to people,” Alexis said, beginning to pace.

“Where will you go?” he asked sadly.  He didn't want her to walk out of his life.

“Back to New York.  I mean, I only came here to help Stefan.  I never planned on staying.  I’ve already talk to my old boss and he was happy to hear that I was moving back.  He offered me my old job back,” Alexis said looking down at the floor. She couldn’t bare to see the look of disappointment that was surely in his eyes.

“Sounds like you have it all figured out.”

“I do.  I just have to tie up some loose ends here, first.”

“When are you leaving?”

“I hope to have everything taken care of by the end of next week,” Alexis said.

“That soon?” Jax asked surprised.

Alexis walked back over to the couch and sat down him.  “I'm going to miss you.  I don't know if I can do this alone but I know I can't stay here.  There are too many bad memories.  Please don't hate me, Jax,”Alexis sobbed.

Jax was stunned.  Didn't she know how he felt about her?  “I could never hate you!'”Jax said, running a hand along her cheek.  He leaned in closer to her and she closed her eyes instinctively as his lips brushed against hers.  The kiss began innocent enough but quickly grew more passionate.  Alexis was truly surprised by his kiss but she was even more surprised that she was allowing it.

Alexis broke the kiss, her hands were trembling and tears filled her eyes.

“God Alexis, I'm sorry,” Jax said regretfully.

''Jax, I'm really sleepy.  I think you better go,” she whispered, her eyes glued to her hands, which were fidgeting in her lap.

''Okay.  Alexis I'm sorry....I call you in the morning, okay?” Jax asked, hoping he hadn’t ruined their friendship.

''That’s fine but I’m going to be in and out most of the day tomorrow,” Alexis replied, still avoiding eye contact.

Jax nodded and walked out of the penthouse.  He leaned his head against the door, vowing that he wasn't going to make the same mistake twice.  He wasn't about to let Alexis walk out of his life.

Alexis closed her eyes as more tears fell.  She didn't know what had just happened between her and Jax.  And she guessed that it didn't matter anymore.  She would gone leaving Port Charles in a few days and she was never coming back.  Jax and Ned could move on with their lives and forget  all about her.  She smiled sadly, apparently Ned was already moving on.

“Looks like it’s just you and me, little one,” she whispered rubbing her stomach.  “I promise you that I will take good care of you.”

The two men that had raped Alexis were waiting on the dock.  “You didn't do the job I paid you to do!” the man yelled.  “'I wanted the Alexis Davis dead.  Give me one reason why I shouldn’t kill you both for not following my orders?” Sorel spat.

“Because they were following my orders,” Helena said, walking up behind Sorel.  “It would be most beneficial for you to remember who you work for, Joseph.”
