Chapter 4 Three Months later... Sorel walked toward the yacht. He looked around making sure no one was watching him. He climbed aboard. His dislike for his boss was growing stronger with each passing day. “You wanted to see me?" Helena looked over Sorel with disgust. She wondered why she hadn't killed him long ago. "Do I need to remind you who you’re working for, again? His eyes locked with her cold ones. "No." "Then tell me, why did you send Tim to New York?" she questioned. The surprise showed on his face but he recovered quickly. "I sent him to keep an eye on Corinthos' lawyer," he explained easily. "Did I order you to have her followed?" "No. I just thought..." Sorel was silenced of by Helena. "I don't pay you to think, Joseph, I pay you to follow orders. MY ORDERS!" Helena said in deadly tone. "This personal war you have with Corinthos, is your business and I'll let you handle it. But Alexis is my business. If she is harmed any further, I promise you will live to regret it," Helena threatened. "I thought you hated her?" Sorel made the mistake of asking. "See there you go thinking again. My feelings for my late husband's daughter is none of your business! And digging into my business could be a fatal mistake. You should ask my son about that. Oh but I guess you can’t because he's dead!" Sorel’s eyes locked with her's when her words registered on him. "Do we understand each other, Joseph?" "Perfectly." “Very well, you may go now. I trust we won't have to have this conversation again." Sorel nodded and left. * * * * * The only light in the penthouse was from the fire burning in the fireplace. Soft sobs could be heard as Alexis tossed and turned on the couch. "No! Please!" she pleaded. **EDITED** Alexis heard her own screams before her body jerked her awake. She struggled to catch her breath, trying to calm her pounding heart and erase one of the many dark memories of her youth. It took a few seconds to realize what had waken her from her nightmare. Someone was knocking at the door. She walked to the door on shaky legs, still feeling the effects of the nightmare. "Who is it?" she called, leaning her head against the door. "Alexis, it's Jax!" “Jax?" She pulled open the door not believing he was really there. A smile formed on her lips and felt a wave of relief pass through her body. Tears instantly filled her eyes. Jax was always there at just the right time. "I'm so glad you’re here!" she whispered, before falling into his arms. "What happened?" Jax questioned, smoothing her hair with his fingers. "Nothing. I just had a bad dream," she explained weakly, pulling out of his embrace. "Wow. You’re really here!" "You’re surprised?" Alexis looked away from his intense eyes. "Yes I am," she confessed sadly. "Why?" Jax asked in confusion. "I know you weren't happy with my decision to leave Port Charles." "Come here," he said, with open arms. She smiled as he hugged her. He closed his eyes, breathing in the sweetness of her hair. "No matter what, I will always be there for you. Even when I don't agree with your decisions. Nothing could ever make me stop loving you," Jax said. He hadn't meant for the last part to fall from his lips and the look of pure panic in Alexis' eyes told him that she wasn't ready for his love yet. Alexis pulled away from him suddenly. "Don't say that Jax!" she said tearfully. "I'm sorry. This wasn’t how I meant to share my feeling about you. But I do love you," Jax repeated. "NO!! NO!!" Alexis screamed. "I don't deserve to be loved. Not after the things I’ve done and had done to me. Please don't fall in love with me because I can never return it!" Alexis sobbed, as she ran out of the room. Leaving a confused and heartbroken Jax standing in the entrance way of her penthouse. His heart was breaking for her and all the pain she was in. He had hoped that her time in New York would erase some of the bad memories of Port Charles and her rape. He was wrong. Se seemed even more lost and broken that before. NOTE: The contents of Alexis' dream is very dark and disturbing but does contribute to the understanding of the story, where Alexis' emotional state is concerned.
