Part 5 Alexis rolled over in bed, feeling the coolness of the sheet and not Jax’s warm body. Her eyes slowly opened and she sat up, realizing she was alone. “Jax?” she called but she was met with only silence. She frowned wondering where Jax had gone off to so early. Jax. Just thinking about him made her heart soar with love. Her eyes filled with tears, so overwhelmed with the emotions that this man caused her to feel. It was that moment she realized just how much she loved him. She was in love with her best friend and she couldn't be happier. His touches and kisses made her body sing. She climbed out of bed and headed for the shower, hoping that by the time she had showered and gotten dressed, Jax would be back. She walked into the bathroom and found a single red rose on the counter top along with a note. She smiled, picking up the rose and inhaling the sweet scent, then picked up the note and read: Good morning Darling, I'm really sorry, I wasn't there when you woke up but I had a business meeting I couldn't reschedule. I should be back in an hour. There’s a pot of coffee waiting for you and when I get back, we’ll have a late brunch. I love you. Jax Alexis inhaled the rose’s scent once more before getting into the shower. * * * * * After a long and relaxing shower, she dressed and went into the kitchen. She was just about to have a cup of coffee when a knock at the door surprised her. She sighed in frustration. So much for that coffee, she thought. She pulled the door open expecting Jax or something romantic from him but she couldn't have been more wrong. Sonny Corinthos stood before her. Alexis gasped in shock. “Sonny!” “Hi. Can I come in?” Alexis was too stunned to speak, she just moved aside to let him in. “Are you alright?” he asked, looking at her closely. “What are you doing here?” Alexis whispered, finally finding her voice. “I was worried about you,” Sonny admitted. “How did you know where I was?” Alexis asked, narrowing her eyes at him suspiciously. “You’re my lawyer and with Sorel missing, I’ve been keeping a closer eye on you.” “How dare you have me followed!” Alexis spat out angrily. Sonny held up his hands in surrender. “Alexis...” he tried. “You have no right! I'm your lawyer but that doesn't give you the right to spy on me!” Alexis was furious with him. First Jax had taken it upon himself to ‘save and protect’ her and now she finds out that Sonny had one of his men on her without her even knowing it. “I'm not spying on you. As long as Sorel is on the loose no one close to me is safe. And Sorel isn't too pleased with you either, since you were Zander's lawyer. He wants revenge Alexis.” Alexis trembled slightly at the thought of Sorel and the things he was capable of doing to her and Zander. She hugged herself tightly, looking away from Sonny’s intense eyes. She repeated her original question. “Why are you here?” Sonny shrugged his shoulders looking around the apartment. “I could ask you the same thing.” “You could but since I asked you first, why don’t you just enlighten me with your response.” “I was worried about you. What's going on with you, anyway. It's not like you to just disappear. Something is going on.” “I just needed some time away from everything,” Alexis said, not wanting to talk about Jax with Sonny. She knew Sonny had to know that she was there with Jax and for a moment she thought she saw jealousy in his dark eyes. But surely she had been mistaken. “Alone?” he asked, moving toward her slowly. “Sonny, my personal life isn't any of your concern,” Alexis said, putting some distance back between them. Sonny didn't remark on that since she was right, her personal life was her own. But regret filled his heart because he had waited to tell her just how much she meant to him. Alexis took notice of the sudden sadness in his eyes, assuming it had something to do with Carly. She never dreamt that she was the source of his sadness. Suddenly she knew the reason he had come. “You know running away isn't going to change the fact that you still love her and need her Sonny,” Alexis whispered, her back to him. “Pardon me?” Sonny asked, wondering how Carly had come into this conversation. “Carly’s the reason you came halfway around the world. It had nothing to do with being worried about me. You knew I was safe. It was your excuse to not have to see and deal with Carly,” Alexis reasoned, her lawyering skills kicking in. She knew how to read people and she understood Sonny better than most. “You’re wrong Lex. I'm not running from Carly and I WAS worried about you. I care very deeply for you,” he said. She turned to face him then, hearing the last part of his statement and the emotion in his voice. “I care about you too,” Alexis admitted softly. They held each other’s stare. Alexis watched as he approached her, helpless to protest. But did she really want to? He stood so close to her, she could feel the heat radiating from his body and she could smell his aftershave. He touched her cheek, running his fingertip along her jaw bone. She had been so enthralled by Sonny and him with her that neither of them had heard Jax enter the apartment. Jax stood in the doorway and watched the woman he loved being touched by a man he hated more than anyone. “What the hell is going on!”Jax demanded, his tone deadly. Alexis stepped back from Sonny and took in a shaky breath. She saw the fury and anger in Jax’s eyes and she felt sick for putting it there. “Jax, I can explain!” Alexis said. “What the hell are you doing here Corinthos?” “Where the hell do you get off kidnaping my attorney?” Sonny challenged. Alexis gasped in shock. She didn't know why it came as a shock to her, that Sonny knew that Jax had taken her. He had admitted having his men watching her. But she was shocked that Sonny had allowed her to be taken in the first place. “I wasn't about to let Alexis be the latest victim in your Mob war,” Jax said moving toward them. Alexis didn't like the look in Jax’s eyes and stepped between the two men. “Jax!” Alexis pleaded. “Alexis is a big girl. She can take care of herself!” Sonny said smugly. “Sonny!” Alexis yelled, whipping around to face him. “Stop it, both of you!” Both Jax and Sonny were surprised by her outburst. “As you can see I'm alright. I think it’s time for you to leave,” Alexis said to Sonny before walking to the door. “This is where I'm staying,” Sonny told her, handing her a hotel card. “I'm leaving in the morning. If you want to join me, be at the airport at 9am.” Sonny looked back at Jax with bitterness in his heart .There had been too much pain between them to ever be friends. “She won't be going anywhere with you!” Jax yelled. “Jax, I can speak for myself, thank you!” She was so tired of being treated like a child. Why did the men in her life always try and control her? Alexis closed the door. She looked to Jax and their eyes locked. Jax saw the anger and pain in them and he instantly regretted letting Sonny push buttons like he had. “Alexis...” he tried. “I have told you, I don’t know how many times, I'm quite capable of taking care of myself. I don't need you or Sonny doing it for me!” Alexis walked away from the door. “I love you and I'm not going to lose you. People have a way of getting killed around Sonny Corinthos. I won't let that happen to you,” he vowed. Tears flooded her eyes. She didn’t think she could love Jax more than she did at that moment. Her heart was breaking because she knew that leaving would be so much harder now that he had her heart. |
