Part 6

Jax held her gaze, his eyes speaking the volumes of love and regret that was in his heart. "Alexis."

She looked away from his intense stare feeling overwhelmed by her love for him. "Please don't order me around Jax," Alexis warned.

"I wasn't..." Jax tried to explain. He noticed her arched brow. "Okay, maybe I was but Sonny is..." The rest of his sentence died in his throat when he noticed how upset Alexis had become.

"Look Jax, you and I will never agree on Sonny," Alexis spat out angrily.

"I see."

"Hmm?" Alexis was clearly confused by the sadness now shining in his eyes.

"You’re in love with Sonny. Aren't you?"

Alexis raised her hands from her sides and opened her mouth to respond to Jax’s ludicrous statement but no words came out. She was too stunned by it.

Jax mistook her silence as an admission of truth and was devastated by her betrayal. "How could you make love to me if Sonny was the one in your heart?" Jax asked in the most hurt voice she had ever heard.

Alexis shook her head, trying desperately to keep her tears from surfacing. Jax’s accusation was heartbreaking. Did he really think she was capable of such cruelty? "How could you ask me such a thing, especially after last night?" Alexis cried, her voice laced with pain and disappointment.

Jax closed his eyes upon hearing her wounded voice. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt her. But he couldn't go through the pain of losing another woman to Sonny Corinthos. "Alexis please, I saw you and Corinthos together when I walked in here. And what I saw between you wasn’t just friendship. I don’t want to lose you to him. He isn’t worth it. You deserve SO much better."

But she was already retreating from his outstretched hands. "Don't touch me!" she pleaded before burying her face in the warmth of her hands. She couldn’t bear to look at him for another moment. So many conflicting emotions were flooding her senses. She needed to get away from him for a little while and figure out what she was feeling. And for whom.

"I'm sorry," Jax said truly regretting his words and pulling away from her. He didn’t want to be overbearing and push her further away. "This isn’t how I hoped we would spent your last day in Venice."

Alexis’s hands fell from her face as his words registered. Jax was sending her home and he wasn't returning with her. "So what was all this Jax?" Alexis asked bitterly. "Was I just your latest takeover? Do you feel anything for me at all? Or was this just some power trip between you and Sonny?" Alexis suddenly felt nauseous from the realization. How could she have been so foolish?

"No!" Jax yelled, reading her thoughts. "I meant every word Alexis! I love you. However, I have several business deals to finished before I can return to Port Charles."

Alexis turned her back on him. She didn’t know what to believe anymore.

Just as Jax was about to approach her, his cell phone starting ringing. "Damn!" he cursed. He had forgotten an important document and had only intended on being gone from the office for a short time.

"I need to get back to the office," Jax admitted, as she turned to look at him.

"Then go," Alexis said, her voice void of emotions.

"I love you. I won't be gone long." He hesitated, wondering if she would still be there when he returned.

She didn't reply. She simply walked away from him in the direction of the bedroom. Jax jumped slightly when the heard the door slam.

"Damn you, Corinthos." Jax swore, as he left the apartment.

Sonny stood looking out the window, at the view below him. It was incredible. He tore his eyes from the window upon hearing the knock at the door. He wondered if it was her but he never really expected her to come to him. He broke out in a huge smile when he opened the door.

"Alexis!" Sonny exclaimed, ushering her inside.

"I have to ask you something. I really need you to be honest with me." She needed to know if what Jax said held some truth.

"Okay."

"Why did you allow Jax to kidnap me?"

"Because I knew you’d be safe with him," Sonny admitted, although he would never admit that in Jax's presence.

She looked at him closely. She saw something burning in his dark eyes that she hadn't noticed before. Or if she had, she never realized it for what it was until now. "Sonny, why did you come here?"

He looked away from her soulful eyes, eyes that always seemed to touch a place in his soul. "I told you, I..I was worried."

"Is that the only reason?" Alexis probed, touching his arm. "Please Sonny, I need you to be honest with me."

"Alexis you know the reason. In your heart, you know why I came," Sonny whispered, touching her lips with his fingertips.

She knew Jax had been right but now Sonny confirmed it with his light touch across her lips. There was more between her and Sonny than friendship. She loved Jax but there was something happening with Sonny. But did she really want to know what it was?

"I love you Alexis." He brought his face close to hers and she knew what he was about to do. Yet she couldn’t stop him. God help her, she didn’t want to stop him. Unconsciously, she licked her lips and tilted her head so she was even closer to his face. Sonny took that as her giving him permission to do what he had only dreamt about for so long, he claimed her mouth with his.

"Sonny," Alexis sighed against his mouth, before she let herself be swept away by him.

"Alexis?" Jax called. He looked around the apartment, hoping that she wasn’t already gone. But all of her things were missing, she had left him. Jax sat down on the sofa, knowing exactly where she was. He had lost another love to Sonny Corinthos.

He still couldn't believe that Alexis would make love to him so passionately, if she wasn't truly in love with him. Could he have been wrong about Alexis and what she felt for him?

"Alexis," he sighed her name, hugging a pillow to his chest tightly.
