Prologue

Sonny Corinthos was staring out the window of his penthouse looking out at the city. Tonight he was consumed with restlessness and yearning for change.  He was tired of doing the same old song and dance with Carly.  And there was something deep down he just didn't trust about Angel. He didn’t get to give that much thought as the ringing of the phone sidetracked him.

“Hello.”

“It’s me. I need your help!” Jason pleaded.

“Jason?”

“Yes it’s me. Can you come to Los Angeles right away!” Jason asked his voice strained with fear.

“Jason. What’s wrong?” Sonny knew something was, he had never heard fear in Jason’s voice before.

“Jason?” Static was the only response Sonny received. The line was dead.  “Damn!”

Sonny wandered what Jason was doing in Los Angeles in the first place.

Across The Hall

Alexis had been awakened by the same nightmare that she had been having since seeing her mother’s necklace.  She had never felt so lost and lonely in her life. Tears fell from her eyes as she reached for the picture of her mother on her night table. She needed to find out what was happening to her. She was grateful that she had to go out of town in the morning. Maybe time away from Port Charles was just what she needed to get her life back on track.

* * * * *

Alexis looked out the window wondering what was the hold up. She hated flying and the delay wasn't helping ease her fears. She sighed as the seat belt sign flashed on.

“Finally,” she muttered.

* * * * *

The plane had been in the air for about twenty minutes when it flew into a storm, accompanied by dense fog, and torrential rain. Alexis instantly became nervous and rightfully so.

A scream rose in her throat, when the pilot calmly announced the plane was going down.

Alexis bent over and pressed her head between her knees, covering it with her arms as the plane plunged downward. It seemed like a lifetime.

Alexis raised her head. Her hair and shoulders were littered with chips of plastic that had previously been the window next to her seat. She shook her head slightly and the plastic fell off her, making tinkling little noises.

Alexis slowly opened her eyes, finding death all around her. The man sitting across from her was dead.  So were the two passengers in front of her. Everything was frightfully still. There was no sound. Was she the only survivor?

Avoiding any direct contact with the bodies, she looked up through the ripped metal seam. The sky was filled with dark gray clouds, looking ready to burst at any second. Alexis could hear deep rolls of thunder in the distance.

She began to cry, hopelessness and fear overwhelming her. She was afraid she would die. She was also afraid that she wouldn’t.

The deaths of the other passengers had been swift and painless. Most of hem killed on impact. Alexis didn’t have any idea where they had crashed.  She was sure she would die slowly of thirst, exposure, starvation.

She wondered why she was still alive and she jumped when a flash of lightning struck a nearby tree.

The plane rocked from the force of the fallen tree and she realized that the plane wasn't stable.  She needed to get out...and quickly.

She scrambled up the aisle, bushing past a bloody arm. She screamed when the arm grabbed hold of her.

She froze in fear.  She didn’t know if she wanted to see the victim’s face.  She whipped her head around and stumbled backward, shocked upon seeing whom the person was.

“Sonny!” Alexis whispered.

Sonny moaned in pain, but he was alive.  She wasn’t alone. Alexis didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.  So she did a little of both.

“Sonny wake up. Please wake up!” He moaned, but didn’t open his eyes.

Alexis cried out as another flash of lightning flashed overhead. “We have to get out of here!”

Alexis opened his seat belt.  His dead weight slumped against her. She caught most of it on her left shoulder and she supported him there while she backed down the aisle toward the opening, half lifting him, half dragging him with her.

It seemed like forever but she manageed to get Sonny to the opening.  Occasionally he groaned but showed no signs of coming around.

“Sonny it’s time to wake up. I can’t do this by myself!” Alexis sobbed, trying to lift him through the opening to get him off the plane.

Alexis started as lightning struck another tree causing it to fall on the back half of the plane. The plane shook and rocked with the impact, sending Alexis and Sonny through the opening.  They were free from the plane but far from being safe.
