Chapter 3 Carly sat up in bed to get a better look at her sister. "No choice?" Carly asked incredulously. Skye lowered her head under Carly intense stare. "Caroline, I.." "We all have choices, Skye. You just *chose* to forget all about me!" Carly accused, as new tears formed in her eyes. "That's not true! I never forgot you!" "If that's true, then why didn't you come back for me?" "I tried but things kept coming up. And then there was Mitch!" Skye watched the life drain from her sister's face at the mention of Mitch Benson's name. "What did he do to you to keep you from coming back for me?" Carly asked, in a frightened voice that answered all Skye's questions about Caroline's childhood after she left. "Oh God. He hurt you, didn't he?" Carly's bottom lip trembled, as she shook her head. "No he didn't. The only person who hurt me was YOU!" Carly yelled, her momentary weakness brought on by the mention of her father forgotten as the anger toward her sister was rekindled. Skye shook her head, not believing for a moment that Caroline was telling the truth about Mitch. "I'm sorry Caroline. I'm so sorry!" Skye sobbed, as she moved closer to her sister. "Stay away from me. I don't need you!" "Caroline please, let me try to explain..." "There's nothing to explain Skye. You went out and found your real family and forgot all about me. I not even your real sister anyway," Carly said sadly. "You are my sister, Caroline. Forever. I never forgot YOU. I love you!" Skye said, wiping away tears. "Get out!" Carly said in a deadly tone. "I don't want to hear any more of your lies!" Skye shook her head. She knew that Caroline would be angry and hurt with her but she never thought she would hate her. She wanted to tell her sister the whole truth about why she was never able to return for her, but now wasn't the time. "Get out Skye. Now!" Carly screamed. "What the hell are you doing?" a voice asked from the doorway. Both women turned in the direction of his voice. "Sonny," Carly said. "I asked you a question," Sonny said, looking directly at Skye. "Nothing. I just stopped in to tell her that AJ was out of surgery," Skye lied. Carly became instantly panicked. "He's going to be alright, isn't he?" Sonny felt a wave of jealousy, seeing how worried his wife was for her ex-husband. "Carly, you have to take it easy," Sonny warned, while giving Skye a dirty look. Carly noticed the tension between Sonny and Skye. She wasn't sure what was going on with the two of them but deep down she knew something was. "How is AJ, Skye! Please, tell me!" "He survived the surgery," Skye explained. "Thank God!" Carly whispered with relief. "I better get back," Skye said, heading for the door. "I'll be right back," Sonny told Carly, following Skye out of the room. Sonny pulled her by the arm into an empty room. "What the hell are you trying to pull?" Sonny asked, pushing her against the door. "Nothing!" Skye struggled to get free of his tight hold. "What did you say to my wife?" "Nothing. Now let go of me or I'll scream!" Skye said. Sonny was starting to scare her. She didn't like the look in his eyes. "You stay the hell away from my wife Skye," Sonny whispered, their faces only inches apart. They could feel the other's breath against their skin. "I didn't tell her about us, if that's what you're afraid of Mr. Corinthos!" Skye said, pushing against him as hard as she could. Her sudden movement caught him by surprise and he backed away from her slightly. "Good because what happened between us, stays between us," Sonny reminded her. "I know that!" Skye said, rubbing the arm he had just released. Sonny looked at her and could tell she was furious with him but there was something else burning in her eyes. He was determined to find out what it was and why she was so curious about his wife. "Stay away from Carly!" Sonny warned again. "Why?" Skye challenged. "Pardon me?" "Why should I stay away from Carly?" "You'll only upset her and she doesn't need that right now. She's worried to death about AJ. He saved her life and she feels responsible for what happened to him." Skye smiled. Her suspicions were confirmed. "You still love her." Sonny didn't comment, just brushed past her and walked out of the room. * * * * * Flashback Caroline walked up the porch steps to where Mitch was waiting. She swallowed hard when she saw him holding his belt. "Get in this house now!" he yelled. "Yes sir," Caroline answered, walking to the door. She reached for the screen door, her hand trembling with fear, knowing what awaited her once she was inside. She walked into the house, which was a mess as usual, with beer cans and clothes thrown about. "Who told you, you could go out and play?" Mitch asked, tapping the belt against his hand. Caroline jumped at the sound. "No one. I just wanted to..." The rest of Caroline's words were lost in the pain of the belt hitting her legs. "Please Daddy, I'm sorry. I won't do it again. I promise!" Caroline pleaded. "Get to your room now. And get your clothes off!" "No Daddy, please don't make me do that!" Caroline sobbed. Mitch grabbed her by the arms and lifted her up in the air. He brought his face close to hers. "Shut up! You'll do what I tell you to do!" Then he dropped her and she fell to the floor in a heap. "I'm sorry." A pair of young, frightened eyes watched the scene play out in horror. She backed away from the window, knocking over a flower pot. Mitch and Caroline both heard the crash. "Get to your room now!" he shouted, before going to the door. Carly got up from the porch and ran to the side of the house, hiding behind some brushes. She could see Mitch looking around but he didn't see her. She ran home after he had gone back inside, not sure what to do or who to tell about what she had just seen. End of Flashback "No, please don't hurt her!" Carly screamed from her bed as Sonny walked back into her room. "Shh honey, wake up," Sonny encouraged, shaking her softly. "No!" Carly screamed, the sound of gunshots filling her dream. She jumped up in bed and fell into Sonny's waiting arms. "It's okay Carly. It was just a nightmare." "No it wasn't," she insisted, still not fully awake. "He killed her," she sobbed. Sonny pulled back to look at his wife. "What are you talking about?" * * * * * Skye went to find out how AJ was recuperating. She spotted Monica and her father holding each other. "Father, how's AJ?" "He's alive. Right now he's in a coma from the head injury and he also has some swelling on the spinal cord from the accident," Alan explained, as Monica started crying again. "Oh my God," Skye breathed, realizing how serious her brother's condition was. * * * * * A man walked along the dock, his head full of images of his two beautiful little girls. Soon his girls would be back where they belonged. With him. "Daddy's home," he called with a laugh, disappearing in the fog. |
