Chapter 18

Alexis walked into her apartment expecting to find Jax waiting for her.  But she was surprisingly disappointed when he wasn't there.  She dropped her briefcase on the table and kicked off her shoes.  She headed for the bedroom to change her clothes and took in the sight of her unmade bed and her clothes scattered across the room.  She shook her head in disgust.  A few weeks ago, she would never have left the apartment without making her bed.  But that was before Jax.  The man had her doing and thinking things she had never thought about before.  A smiles spread across her face, as she changed into a jeans and a sweater.  She was just about to make up the bed when she heard him calling her.

"Alexis," Jax called, closing the door behind him.

"Hey," Alexis greeted.

Jax stood by the door with his hands behind his back.  Alexis knew he was hiding something.

Alexis looked away from Jax’ intense stare.  "I bet your parents think I'm a total nut case," Alexis whispered referring to the Jacks’ family breakfast.

"No, they don't think that at all.  They were just a little confuse by your sudden exit," Jax said honestly.

Alexis closed her eyes to keep Jax from seeing the hurt in them.  She had desperately wanted his parents approval but she had manage to screw that up.  It was just a matter of time before she screwed up everything else as well.

"I'm sorry Jax," Alexis said desperately, her soulful eyes pleading for his understanding.

"Honey, it's okay, I understand you’re a little overwhelmed," Jax said, finally revealing what was behind his back.

Alexis looked at what he was holding and felt the tears spilling from her eyes.  "Jax."

He was holding two white orchids and something else.  "Maddie picked these for you and she made this."

Tears streamed down her face.  She had never been so totally swept away in her life.  Jax and his daughter had touched something inside of her that she had forgotten was even there.  Love.  And that alone terrified her.  She wanted to scream and run away but she couldn't.  Her heart wouldn't let her.

"What’s this?" she asked when she got her emotions under control.  She took the paper from him and looked at it.  Jax shrugged his shoulders.

"I didn't open it."

Alexis sat down on the couch, unrolling the picture that Maddie had made for her.  She looked at the drawing and tears filled her eyes again.  Maddie had drawn a picture of her family, including Alexis as her mom.  Alexis hid her face in her hands.

Jax took Alexis in his arms.  He didn't question her tears, just gave her what he knew she needed.

Emily was pacing Lucky's apartment, worried to death about him.  She still hadn't been able to get his words out of her head.  I love You Emily.  She smiled as his voice echoed in her thoughts.

"I love you too," she whispered, as a single tears rolled drown her cheek No one had said those words to her since her mother had died and she had forgotten how amazing it felt to hear them and be able to say them in return with the same passion.

Emily decided she needed to some rest if she was going to visit Lucky first thing in the morning.  She knew he would be nervous about his bail hearing and she prayed that Lucky’s father's lawyer friend was as good as Luke claimed.

Carly couldn't sleep She smiled at Sonny's peaceful face.  She was sure of her feelings.  She was in love with him and she had been for a long time, she had just let her fears hold her back.

She walked downstairs, heading to the kitchen for a snack.  Her thoughts turned to Michael.  She believed Sonny's promise of bringing Michael back to her, she just prayed that it wasn't too late, that he would still remember her.  With each day that passed, more doubts crept into her mind.  If Michael was adjusting to his life without her, as he had adjusted when Jason suddenly wasn't there anymore, then maybe she would lose for baby forever, even if Sonny did bring him home.  Rage filled her heart, when she thought of Bobbie’s deceit.  Why couldn't she have told her the truth long ago?  Now her baby was paying a debt, her mother should have paid years ago.  If her parents hadn't been so selfish, Michael would be safe.  Or would he?  Carly was so lost in her thoughts, she didn't notice Sonny standing in the doorway watching her.

"Carly."

Carly jumped and dropped the bowl of strawberries she had been holding.  "You scared me," she whispered.

"I'm sorry," Sonny said, helping her clean up the mess.  "What are you doing in my kitchen, anyway?” Sonny said sternly.

"I was hungry," she explained not seeing the mischief in his eyes.  Her hands started to tremble and Sonny took them in his.

"I was kidding about the kitchen comment, Carly."

Carly offered him a weak smile.  "Sonny?"  Her breath caught in her throat, when he kissed her hands.

"Hmm?"

"Do you think Luke will help us?” Carly asked.  She wasn’t looking forward to her conversation with her uncle.  "He hated Stefan and isn’t going to be happy that he was my birth father or that Bobbie has lied to him all these years.”

"Luke will helps us.  Nothing is more important to him than his family," Sonny  replied.

"I hope you’re right.  I know that Luke puts his family first but I'm a Cassadine as well."  Carly bowed her head in shame.

"Luke will help us because it will help Lucky," Sonny said.  He hoped not have to share this with her until the morning.  "Lucky’s in jail for the murder of Hank Bowen."

"What!" Carly exclaimed, as she sat down in a near by chair.

"I’m sorry.  I wasn't going to tell you until the morning," Sonny explained.

"Lucky wouldn't kill anyone.  You have to help him," Carly pleaded desperately.  Everything and everyone she loved was being taken away from her.

"Shh Carly, Lucky’s going to be okay.  Alexis is his attorney.”

"She is?" Carly said feeling a little better.  Alexis was the best attorney she knew.  Lucky was truly in good hands.

"Yes.  Would you like me to fix you something to eat?" Sonny offered.

Carly nodded.  “Well...I did miss lunch," Carly whispered.  She made mental note to call Alexis later to find out more about her cousin’s troubles.

Sonny kissed Carly and hurried her out the kitchen.  She shook her head at him.  "Man, you’re never going to let me cook again, are you?  I told you I wasn't use to cooking on a gas stove,"  Carly tried to explain how she had manage to burn breakfast."

"Yeah right!" Sonny said rolling his eyes.

Carly laughed.  Sonny had this way of making her smile when he looked at her with those dark, intense eyes.  She couldn't help the feeling of love and hope that filled her heart.  Sonny made her believe that everything was going to okay.

Luke sat in his office at the club looking at pictures of his son.  "How did it come to this?" Luke asked the picture, as if it was going to give him the answers.  Luke knew that Lucky and him had drifted apart because of Helena's lies.  But deep down, he knew he couldn't blame everything on Helena because their was just enough truth in them.  Not telling Lucky about his mother was a mistake, one that he would forever regret because it was costing him his son.

"I’m going to make this right, son!" Luke vowed, setting the picture back on his desk.

Stefan sat on his small bed watching her toss and turn.  He couldn't help his heart ache for her.  She was so beautiful and terribly lost and confused.  The more he told her about Jax, the sadder her eyes grew.  Stefan wasn't sure if the sadness was of longing or something else but he was even more determined than ever to help her.  The first thing he had to do was figure out a way to get them out of this room and figure out where they were.

Brenda was awake and watching Stefan.  She could see his mind working, planning their escape and she was grateful for his company.  She had been alone for so long.  It was good to have someone to talk to, she just wished his eyes weren't so intense and his voice wasn’t so...  Brenda didn't let her thoughts wander any further.  If everything that Stefan had said about her was true, then she had a wonderful husband and child waiting for her.  She couldn't let herself get caught up in Stefan Cassadine.

She closed her eyes again, when she felt his hands in her hair.  ‘Don't even think about how gentle his hands are and how wonderful they feel.’  She cursed herself as thoughts of how his hands would feel on other places of her body filled her mind.

Alexis played with the buttons on his shirt as one of his hands rubbed her back.  She couldn't believe that it was finally happening.  She was at home.  Jax' family could be her family and she could have what she had wanted her entire life.

But her head was full of years of rejection and the fear of it happening again was too much for Alexis to cope with.  "Jax, it’s not you or your family.  I’ve just never felt like this before and I don't know how I’m suppose to act or what I’m suppose to say," Alexis whispered.

Jax lifted her head, making her look at him.  "Do you love me?"

"Yes," Alexis answered immediately and without thought.

“That’s all you need.  There is no script to love, it just happens.  And it's scary and wonderful and confusing, but that is the beauty of it.  We just have to have the courage to take the ride and see where love lead us."

Alexis looked at him.  She had never met anyone so loving and he was not ashamed to share that love with his family.  She smiled as she remembered Jax hugging and kissing both of his parents.  And she was honored that he was willing to share that love with her.  "I love you," Alexis whispered, before kissing his surprised mouth.

"Will you promise something.."Jax asked between kisses, as Alexis worked on removing his shirt.

"Hmm?"Alexis murmured as she showered his chest with kisses.  Jax closes his eyes, almost forgetting his request.

"Promise me there’ll be no more running away.  When you get scared and unsure of yourself, we talk about it, okay?" Jax pleaded in a desperate voice that surprised Alexis.

She looked up at him and saw the fear in his eyes and she was sorry that she had been the one to put it there.  She needed to make things right.  She had been so worried about her own fears, she hadn't realized that he had some as well.  She smiled at him and whispered, "I promise to only run to you."

Jax pulled her close and kissed her.  The kiss started soft and gentle but quickly grew hungry.  Jax pulled her sweater over her head and smiled at the fact that she wasn't wearing at bra.
