Chapter 2 Carly and Sonny just stared at each other. Sonny started to move in closer to Carly's face. She didn't move away. She knew what was going to happen, but she couldn't turn away from him. His lips brushed hers, slowly at first, but soon the kiss grew more passionate. Carly was the first to pull away. "Why did you do that?" she whispered, still trying to catch her breath. "Because this isn't just about guilt. Yes, I feel responsible for what happened to Jason but I care for you and I want to be the one that takes care of you," Sonny replied, while looking into her teary eyes. "You can't be the one, Sonny. Every time I see you, it reminds me of what I have lost. You can never take his place," Carly said, turning back toward the window. She couldn't bear to see the pain her words were causing him. What she said was true. It was how she felt but she knew it was hurting him. "I have to go, Sonny," Carly said, reaching for the door handle. She was almost out of the car, before he spoke. "I'm sorry. I won't bother you again." Carly looked into his dark eyes and the sadness in them caused tears to spill out of her own eyes again. "I'm sorry Sonny but it's how I feel." She climbed out of the car and ran up he stairs. Sonny just watched her go. * * * * * "Two years?" a very shocked Alexis asked. "Yes, two years. See it's part of my father's will. I have to stay married for at least two years or everything will still go to Jerry. My father has only six months to a year to live, but he has made it clear that my marriage has to last for the two years," Jax explained. Alexis just stared at him, not sure what to do. Two years, her mind screamed. "Miss Davis, you have until 9am to make your decision. Meet me at the airport, if the answer is yes," Jax said. She was still in shock, he could see it in those beautiful, brown eyes. He felt a little guilty about doing this to her, but he was a desperate man and she was perfect. His father would approve of his choice. Alexis’s mind suddenly registered what he said about the airport. "Why do we need to meet at the airport?" "I have go out of town for a few days and I'd like you to come with me. We can get married in Vegas!" Jax once again watched Alexis’s face change color. * * * * * Carly was sitting on the front steps of the Brownstone, when Alexis came walking up the stairs. She hadn't even noticed Carly sitting there. In fact, she hadn't noticed much of anything since she left Mr. Jacks's office. "Hey Lex!" Carly greeted cheerfully. Alexis, seeing Carly for the first time, sat down beside her and smiled at her friend. "Hi Carly. Sorry, it's been an unbelievably long day!" Carly looked at Alexis for a few minutes, trying to figure out what had made her so restless. Suddenly, she remembered her meeting with Mr. Jacks. "So how did things go with Mr. Jacks?" Carly asked. Alexis start laughing. She had to laugh to keep form crying. "Carly, the man is the most arrogant, self righteous....." Carly stopped her from saying any more. "It was that bad? Is he still trying to take over Cassadine Industries?" Carly asked, concerned. Alexis look at Carly and started to tell her about her meeting with Mr. Jacks. Once she was done Carly wore the same face she had worn herself in Jax's office - total shock. Jax had managed to leave two normally outspoken women speechless in one day "What are you going to do, Lex?" Carly asked, when she had regained her ability to speak. "I don't know. I really don't have much of a choice," Alexis replied. She stood up and headed inside to her apartment, Carly following close behind. "Lex?" "Yes?" Alexis replied, looking back at her friend. "Maybe it won't be so bad being Mrs. Jacks. I mean he is so hot!" Carly said sheepishly. Alexis laughed again, knowing her decision was already made. Carly knew it too. "So how do you want to spend your last night as a single woman?" Carly asked, smiling. Thinking about Alexis’s problems had taken her mind off Sonny. |
