Chapter 20 "How could you leave her alone?" Sonny asked, desperately. He had to know what she was thinking. "She said that you would know where she was going," Johnny tried to defend his carelessness. Sonny shook his head and ran his hand through his uncombed hair. "Do you honestly think I would let her leave alone in the middle of the night?" Sonny asked shocked. Johnny looked down at the floor, as the elevator door opened. He made a mental vow that everywhere Carly Morgan went, he followed. Sonny thought about where Carly could have gone. The answer came to him, as he climbed into the back of the limo. "Take me to the Brownstone," Sonny ordered Johnny frowned. He had heard Ms. Morgan and Mrs. Jones' fight earlier and was sure that the Brownstown would be the last place she would go. But he didn't dare voice his thoughts to his boss. He nodded and put the limo into gear, while Sonny prayed that he was right and she was safe. * * * * * "I know what it's like to have your life turned upside down by the Cassadines, Carly," Alexis said, sadly. "I know," Carly said, trying not to cry again. Her and Alexis had talked a lot about her life as the bastard Cassadine. "Sonny thinks Helena kidnapped Michael," Carly whispered. Alexis gasped in surprise. But she knew that if Helena was aware that Carly ws Stefan's daughter, no one Carly loved was safe from Helena. "Oh God!" was all Alexis could say. Carly knew by Alexis' reaction that Sonny was probably right. Helena had her son. "When I find my son and his grandmother, I'm going to follow my Spencer instincts," Carly vowed, wiping her tears away. "What?" "I'm going to kill her, that's the only way for Michael and I to ever be safe," Carly said, knowing she was right about that much. Alexis was about to comment on Carly's plan, when a knock at the door surprised them both. They both breathed a collective sigh of relief when they heard Sonny's voice on the other side of the door. "Alexis?" Carly opened the door, knowing that he was looking for her. "I'm okay, Sonny." "Thank God!" Sonny said, pulling her into a grateful hug. "I was worried to death that something had happened to you!" Sonny admitted. Alexis smiled, knowing her best friends had found love. "I'm sorry. I couldn't sleep and I wanted to find out about Lucky," Carly said, looking into Sonny worried eyes. "I'm just so glad that you're okay," Sonny said, still holding her tight. "Would you like to come in. I can make some coffee?" Alexis offered. "No thanks. I think we better be going," Sonny said, looking down at Carly who nodded her agreement. "Anytime you want to talk, day or night, I'm here," Alexis said, giving Carly a hug goodbye. "Thanks for listening Lex." "Anytime," she smiles. Alexis closed the door, once Sonny and Carly had left and went back to her desk to finish the work she had started. Jax stumbled out of the bedroom, still very sleepy. "What are you doing up?" Alexis turned and smiled at him. "Did we wake you?" He stretched and yawned. "I heard voices. What are you working on?" "I was trying to work on Lucky Spencer's case, but Carly came over. So I haven't really gotten much done," Alexis said, with a yawn. "Did something else happen?" Jax asked, remembering that Carly's son was missing. Alexis turned off the lamp on the desk and walked to her husband before answering his question. "Yes, something happened but can we talk about it in the morning," Alexis asked with another yawn. Jax laughed, pulling her close. "Of course. How long do you think Lucky's hearing will last?" Jax asked, as they walked toward the bedroom. "An hour at the most. This is just the bail hearing," Alexis explained. "Okay, well in that case, I'm going with you," Jax announced. "Why?" Alexis asked, a little nervous about having him in the courtroom watching her. "Well, for one thing, I want to see my wife in action and after that I have something special to show you." Jax slipped into bed beside Alexis. "What?" she asked, as she reached for the lamp by the bed, turning it off. "It's a surprise!"Jax whispered and smiled when he realized she was already fast asleep. "Sweet dreams," he said, placing a tender kiss on her cheek. * * * * * Sonny and Carly were in the elevator on the way back up to the penthouse. Johnny was still downstairs parking the car. The doors opened and they stepped out. Sonny knew something was wrong as soon as he saw that Francis was not at the door. "Carly get back in the elevator now!" Sonny yelled. She turned back to the elevator. Just then one of the men grabbed her. She screamed. Sonny turned around to see Carly being held by a strange man. "Let her go, damn it!" he yelled, reaching for Carly and the man. "Sonny!" Carly screamed, before the man covered her mouth with his hand. He placed a gun to her head. "Stay right where you are or I'll kill her!" Sonny stopped moving. "If you hurt her..." Sonny warned. The man backed him and Carly into the waiting elevator. Once inside he took the gun away from Carly's head and pointed it at Sonny. He fired a single shot. "Sonny!!" Carly screamed, watching Sonny slowly slump to the floor, as the elevator doors closed. Carly screamed, as she felt a syringe in her arms. Her head become light, as her eyes become heavy. Soon the darkness covered her completely. * * * * * Carly moaned, as she sunlight swept across the room. She sat up, recalling what had happened last night. "Oh God Sonny!" She jumped when the door open and gasped in pure delight and angst. "I promised you would see your Mommy soon," Helena said, holding a happy Michael in her arms. Carly's eyes filled with tears at the sight of finally seeing her son."Give me my baby," Carly demanded. "All in good time, my dear," Helena said, as she backed out of the room and locked the door behind her. |
