Chapter 7 The sunlight was streaming in through the bedroom window and Alexis could feel the warmth of the sun and his body. Her eyes snapped opened as memories of what had happened the night before came rushing back. "Oh God," Alexis moaned. She buried her face under a pillow, not being able to look at him. Jax was awake. In fact he had barely gotten any sleep worrying about this moment. "Alexis," Jax whispered. Alexis didn't move or speak. She was trying her best to disappear under the pillow. She remembered everything she had said and done and was mortified by her behavior. When had she gotten so audacious? Apparently consuming several bottles of champagne was not the best idea. Alexis felt herself blushing, remembering last nights activities. Jax sensed her embarrassment and tried to make her feel better. "Alexis, last night was beautiful. You have nothing to be ashamed of," Jax said, removing the pillow from her face and making her meet his gaze. "I'm so sorry Jax," Alexis said quickly. Jax touched her lower lip. "You don't have anything to be sorry for," Jax assured her. "But this,” she said gesturing between the two of them, “wasn’t part of our deal" Jax started to laugh. He hadn’t thought about it as a deal, since that day in his office. It was so much more. At least, it was to him. Alexis narrowed her eyes at him in confusion. "What's so funny?" "I'm not laughing at you. I'm laughing at myself,” Jax said, as he continued to laugh. "I don't understand?" Alexis said, sitting up and leaning against the headboard, very carefully, so as not to expose herself to him. "I’m just thinking about how I blackmailed you into marrying me, just to make my dad happy. But I ended up making myself happy as well.” "Jax, what are you talking about?" Alexis asked, fidgeting with the sheet. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to hear what he had to say. "Mrs. Jacks, do you have any idea how easy it would be for me to fall in love with you?" Alexis just looked into his intense blue eyes, not knowing what to say. Jax watched her emotions play out on her face. "Jax, I sorry,” Alexis said finally. She wasn’t sure what she was sorry for, but at the moment that was all she was capable of saying. She was feeling too many foreign emotions. She needed to think. "Alexis don't be sorry. Love isn’t something you need to be sorry for. I know it can be scary, so why don’t we take things slow and see what happens," Jax suggested. He got out of bed and headed for the shower. He stopped before entering the bathroom and turned back to look at her. "Just so you know, Alexis, I think it’s already happened." "What?" "Love," was all Jax said before leaving Alexis alone to think about what had just been said and what it meant for them. * * * * * Sonny stepped off the elevator and immediately knew something was wrong. He quickly crossed to his penthouse door and threw it open. His heart broke at the scene in front on him. His bodyguards lying on the floor, unconscious, perhaps dead. And Carly. "Carly!" he yelled, dropping to his knees beside her limp body. "Oh my God. Please don’t leave me, " Sonny begged. |
