Chapter 8 Sonny was pacing the waiting room at General Hospital, waiting for news on Carly and Francis’s conditions. David was dead and Michael was missing. He didn't know how he was going to tell Carly her baby was missing. Francis was in surgery to remove the bullets and to stop the internal bleeding. He had been shot in the stomach and the leg. Sonny sat down in a nearby chair and prayed. ‘Please God let her be okay. Please.’ He got up from the chair and resumed his pacing. The waiting was driving him crazy. * * * * * Michael lay in a crib, crying for his mother. The man was pacing the room. Michael’s crying was getting on his nerves. He didn’t know how much more he could take from the screaming brat. "Shut that kid up!" he yelled at the brown haired girl. "Yes sir," she whispered in fear. Fear, not only for the child, but for herself. * * * * * "Sonny," Tony said. "Dr. Jones, how is Carly?" Sonny asked in a worried voice. He could not get the images of her lying on the floor out of his mind. "She’s going to be fine. She’s asking for you," Tony informed him. "Thank God," Sonny whispered. A wave of relief passed through his body. "Sonny, she’s asking about Michael as well.” The sadness in Tony’s eyes was unmistakable. No one should have to tell a mother that her child is missing. Sonny only nodded his head and walked away, heading in the direction of Carly’s room. He was praying that by the time he reached her room, the right words would be there. * * * * * Alexis had taken her time about getting dressed. She was still trying to figure out what was happening to her. She had always had her life planned out and marriage had never been part of those plans. She looked at herself in the mirror, not really knowing who she was any more. So much had happened in such a short period of time. She was married and on the brink of falling in love with her husband and that scared the hell out of her. She had been in love before, or so she thought, but it had never felt like this. "God help me," she whispered before going down the stairs to where Jax was waiting. * * * * * Jax was talking to someone of the phone, when Alexis came down the stairs. "Dad, I'll tell her. I gotta go." Jax listened to his father on the other end of the phone but his eyes never left Alexis’s face. She felt her cheeks grow hot from his intense stare. "I love you too, Dad. Bye." Jax didn’t give his father a chance to say anymore. He hung up the phone and walked to where Alexis was standing. He pulled her to him quickly and kissed her on the lips. She was so shocked by his actions that she responded to his kiss, without meaning to. They pulled away from each other, breathless. "My dad told me to give you a kiss for him," Jax whispered. "Your dad knows we’re married?" Alexis asked, looking anywhere but at his face. She still couldn’t make eye contact. Jax nodded. "Are you hungry?" Jax asked, pointing to a table full of food. "I didn't know what you eat for breakfast, so I ordered everything they had to offer." Alexis looked at the food and suddenly felt a little sick to her stomach. "Coffee is all I usually have," Alexis said, reaching for a cup. Jax watched Alexis make her coffee in silence. All he wanted to do was take her back upstairs. Alexis could feel him watching her but didn't say anything. She didn’t know what to say after last night. "Alexis," Jax said, breaking the silence. "Hmm," Alexis replied, while turning back to face him. "My dad can't wait to meet you," he said as he walked up to her. "Really?" Alexis asked. "Really!" Jax said as he moved a piece of her hair from her face. "Alexis, I want a real marriage," Jax blurted suddenly. "What!" Alexis exclaimed, nearly dropping her coffee. "I want to be your husband in every sense of the word," Jax whispered, as he took the cup from her shaking hands and placed it back on the table. He leaned down. Alexis closed her eyes knowing what was about to happen. She was helpless to stop him. She moaned as she felt his lips on her own. Their kiss was filled with passion and desire. Alexis pulled away, needing to get some control back in her life. "Jax, I can't be your wife..not like you want me to be," she whispered sadly. * * * * * Carly watched Sonny walk into her room. When she looked into his eyes, she knew that her baby was gone. Tears started to roll down her cheeks. "No !!NO!!" "I’ll bring Michael home!" Sonny vowed, taking her hands in his. "That’s what you said about Jason, Sonny and you didn’t bring him home to me, did you?" she yelled. "My husband came home in a body bag! Are you going to kill my baby too?” Carly screamed. Sonny was speechless. Her words were like knives cutting his soul. |
